Hi

Havin just had my PSU blow up and kill my motherboard i think its time for a upgrade.

Nothin to extreme as i dont play games a lot any more and currently have 2 x 512 pc3200 and a 80 gig SATA HD

I need a case, GOOD PSU (read above  ), DVD RW, graphics card, motherboard and CPU (amd). Storage.

mainly used for downloading and all the usual stuff dvd's and the occasional game. Nice and quiet would be good.

So...spec me chaps
Thanks

Well the hard disk, ram and graphics are all ok. I dont know the state of the CPU yet.

Budget hasnt really been set but maybe around 400.

I will sell the 9800 pro, cpu (if working) and graphics. Probably keep the RAM unless i decide to get 2 x 1gb strips.

As its socket A at the minute i want to get into 939 obviously.

Thanks

You don't quite have the budget to get dual core there so this is about the best compromise I can come up with. There isn't room in the budget to get more storage yet either but you can backup onto the DVDRW I suppose :)

dual core is great if you multitask, do encoding etc.
also more upcoming games are being made to utilize dual core or current games are being patched for dual core support, so dual core will be more longer lasting i would say. if you cab stretch go for the X2 3800+ (good overclockers too).

as for ram 2 Gig is probably best.
