I'm in the middle of building a new PC (waiting for the motherboard to be returned after it fried itself) and I was wondering if theres anything about my build I could do to make it any better. The main things I'll be using it for is ripping DVD's for my AppleTV and playing games.

This is the spec I'm currently going for:

Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX6800 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.93GHz
Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680
Enermax Galaxy 1000W
Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case
Akasa Elipse-62 Side Window
2 x 768Mb XFX 8800GTX PCI-E
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality FPS
2GB kit (1GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DDR800
2 x Samsung SH-S183ABEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer SATA ReWriter
2 x WD Caviar Special Edition 80GB 800AAJS SATA-II - RAID 0
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme
Noctua NF-S12 1200RPM 120mm - To attach to CPU heatsink
Dell 3007WFP-HC

I think I got the best I could but theres normally always something which I miss. So what can I improve on the above setup ?

Memorys something I always get confused about. I order the crucial stuff because of seeing it on Toms Hardware on one of the builds they did :D .

The EVGA 680i is conciderred to be superior, but I'm guessing from how you've said that you're awaiting a replacement, then its not really an option

I've already got a 750GB drive that I'm transplanting from my existing PC which holds everything I need it to.

All in all I think its come to a grand total of £3,500 with £900 of that being the screen. Lots of money I know, but this was a combination of work bonus and birthday present to myself.

I do wish I would have checked before ordering things but I got a bit carried away with it.

BTW is this the motherboard you think I should have gotten ? Motherboard

yep EVGA is better because it has basically the same features as the striker and is a faction cheaper.

I've always wanted to water cool but I'm a bit concerned about destroying components. I may give it a try with my old computer.

Just spoken to OCUK and they don't even seem to think they have received my MB even though I have a couriers receipt saying they have. Even after they acknowledge they have received it I'm looking at over a week before I get a new one.

I might just buy another one and then try and sell the RMA'd one on ebay

Also not put in 4GB of RAM because I'm still currently running WinXP and unless I use the x64 version it won't see the full amount.
