So I have Windows 8 installed and my internet just keeps disconnecting, when I join IRC it loses connection after 20 seconds and the reason normally is * [10101] Host disconnected

Same with Steam, a game will be downloading at 500kb/s and it will drop to 18kb/s. This is only happening on the PC I just built today, my old desktop and laptop are fine. I've tried to disable the firewall and everything but nothing helps.

Try a different cable and if possible, a different NIC if you have a card lying around. Check the drivers from the motherboard manufacturers website as well.

I have the same ethernet wire which I was using on my old desktop plugged into the motherboard of my new pc, don't know why it's doing this. Honestly hate Windows 8, will be buying 7 in a few days, could the problem some how be with Windows? I'm not using any antivirus software apart from the Windows firewall.

I've tried updating the drivers but Windows says that they're already up to date. Downloads are having the same issue as well, they'll download for a few seconds and just stop. I have to cancel them and start the download again (Sometimes they'll just pause for a while and the download will continue) I tried using my old PC again today and it was running fine, internet wasn't cutting out. So the problem has to be with the new PC but I can't figure out what component it is that's causing the problem.

Download all the latest drivers for your motherboard using your old pc and then put on to a memory stick and then boot up your new pc and install the drivers. if that hasn't sorted it out as it sounds like a driver issue then let us know.

Get the latest driver from whoever makes the network chipset.

Probably Intel / Realtek or Marvell. Find out which one it is first.

Then use Device Manager to update the driver with the one you've downloaded
