New PC Issue - Possibly Power Supply?

[EDIT] I found out that the issue is that I have 3 monitors and as I don't use displayport cables I had 2 monitors connected to the 980Ti and 1 to the motherboards HDMI... Whenever I had anything on the monitor that was connected to the motherboard it would drastically decrease the machines performance. So I'm going to change to using displayports so all monitors can be connected to the 980Ti.

Hi!

I've just built myself a shiny new PC but unfortunately I am having quite a big problem with it.

The problem is that when doing more than one thing (such as playing a game and watching a video/movie/stream) or when doing something demanding the PC's performance drops a large amount.

For example: When playing Rocket League and watching a stream on Twitch I go from a smooth 60FPS (game cap) down to 40FPS and the whole system seems to lag and bog down.

I have used monitoring software to see what is happening when this problem happens and both my CPU and GPU are never over 50 Celsius and 40% utilization.

Do you think that the power supply is just choking the parts?

Here are my specs:

  • Case: NZXT H440 (4 system fans)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-Game-Plus
  • CPU: i7-4790k (no overclocking as I removed it in case that was the issue)
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro H100i
  • RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (2x8GB, 2133MHz)
  • GPU: Inno3D GTX 980Ti X3 Ultra (only one)
  • SSD: Samsung Evo 850 500GB & Kingston HyperX 240GB
  • HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB
  • PSU: Corsair 650W 80+ Gold
