Hi

I've recently upgraded my pc and it has turned it into a bag of bolts.

Issues include
Driver irql not less or equal bluescreens
irql not less or equal bluescreens
crash on boot almost every time generally requring a windows restore to get it running
Bluescreens with no specific message
Programs not working properly in windows 7
Windows 7 not loading startup programs
windows explorer random crashes
Progams claiming i'm not connected to the internet when I am (including my wireless card)
No recognising my GPU (occasionally)

The mobo also takes ages to get through the boot stage and the boot device red light on the mobo stays on most of the way through boot and even when i'm in the bios

I am on my second Asus p8p67 pro board (the first having been rma'd and replaced therefore I assume OCUK accepted there was a problem). However am having exactly the same issues here.
RAM is corsair dominator and is not on the QVL but the issues i'm having are not memory management bluescreens (got rid of these when configured RAM manually in bios) - also ran memtest86 which said all was good there
I didn't replace my graphics card (NVIDIA 8800GTS) or my PSU (corsair 620HX (on QVL list)) but can't imagine it being either of those as both were working fine.

I'm using a brand new HDD which i'm reformated and reinstalled windows on more than once, also tried to use ubuntu but again not working.

Completely stumped - any help greatly appreciated

Jim

Is it possible to try with only one memory module and then try the other one, I had similar problem with my i7 system which turned out to be the the memory, this passed mem test fine.

Another problem could be the memory controller on the cpu could be faulty, or the psu can course strange problems, only real way I'm afraid is to test with another unit.

i've just taken one stick of ram out but I won't find out till tomorrow if it helps -once i get windows up and running I can reboot till i'm blue in the face without problems, leave it for off a few hours and it all goes wrong when I next boot.... (that said something's completely screwed in windows atm with certain programs not accepting i'm online (eg steam) that no amount of reboots/restores is fixing)

I'm not going to be able to try the CPU on another rig because no one else I know has a sandybridge set up... PSU has been running my old PC fine and is on the QVL so can't be that, surely?

It's impossible to say, electronics can be a pain in the butt at the best times!

Try with single ram and see how you get on and report back, did you do a fresh install?

hope they did not send the board u rma'd back to u considering u are having the same problems

contact overclockers techs and ask what they found was wrong with the old board then go from there

I spoke to OC today. Apparently my old board kept randomly crashing for them too. Apparently some fault with CPUey type stuff on it (admire my tech knowledge)

Anyway I've booted up tonight with one stick of memory no problems at all although some program issues in windows although it wouldn't suprise me if parts of windows are corrupted given the number of BSODs, other crashes, repairs and restores.. once I get the bugger stable I will reformat and do another clean install number 5 I think.

I said today to them that i'd been having grief and oc suggested that i d/l Ultimate Boot CD and run that, see what it says. So I'm going to do that this evening but i have a feeling my ram is the issue even though i've fixed the memory management and DRAM light sticking on issues...

I'll keep updating in case this is of use to others

hmmm... interesting development just now...

created my ultimate boot CD popped my second stick of RAM back in. turned the pc on and hit the delete key to enter bios... got a black screen with a mouse cursor on it and then it locked up... tried a couple of times. Then I tried to boot windows and got a non specific BSOD...

That stick of RAM came out got into BIOS fine and now back in windows... me thinks we have ourselves the culprit... I will be in touch with them tomorrow re RMAing my RAM... Bit of duff luck to get both dodgy RAM and a dodgy mobo in one order...

now i'm totally confused... both ram back in and booting to bios fine? it has also worked fine tonight with the other stick of RAM on its own... maybe need to leave it for a cold test... another day down the drain

opened the ultimate boot cd and I might as well have just opened a russian dictionary... the bloke at overclockers said just pop it in and it does it all for you... does it 'eck.. I wouldn't have the faintest idea where to start...

I ended up driving 150 miles to ocuk with whole pc and said 'here you fix it'! Which they appear to have done. After another board was fitted all works great so far. Had to drive down again to collect it tho. Ocuk were patient and professional can't fault them. It's the bloomin board!!!
