New PC needed and help requested with what to buy.

Having done some research on the motherboard it comes with 4 Sata cables. The board does seem to have 2x6GB ports. Would it be a good idea to buy some 6GB sata leads for use with the SSD drive and the data drive? Also, I am unsure if I need to set up anything with the drives in the way of Master/Slave? I remember years ago that used to be the case not sure anymore? I of course want to install the OS to the SSD.

Also, having looked at the fans that come with the coolmaster I get 3 included, will this be enough cooling for this system?

SATA drives dont have any master/slave anymore, its one cable for one drive.

You dont need any extra fans.

Here is what the SATA-IO organisation that specifies the Sata revisions says about cables in its FAQs

http://www.sata-io.org/documents/SATA-Revision-3.0-FAQ-FINAL.pdf

Q9: Does SATA 6Gb/s require different connectors and cables to support the higher
transfer speed?

A9: The same cables and connectors used for current SATA 1.5 and SATA 3.0 Gb/s implementations can be used to connect SATA 6Gb/s devices, although SATA-IO recommends quality components be selected to ensure data integrity and robust operation at the faster SATA 6Gb/s transfer rate. Keeping the existing SATA connector form factor enables SATA 6Gb/s to be designed into the same cost-conscious hardware architectures while minimizing infrastructure changes.

Q14: Were there any attenuation or jitter issues that had to be addressed with the jump to 6Gb/s?

A14: Ensuring signal integrity was the primary challenge in doubling the SATA transfer speed or a second time while using the same cables and connectors that were originally defined for the first generation 1.5Gb/s version.

I have looked at the various cards on offer. I havent yet found out if I have been able to get a rev 1 version of the card I have ordered. I am not sure what will happen either since my order was placed on saturday and I only sent off the letter to the finance company today. I would assume OC would ring me if any item I actually ordered was out of stock? I do not want them to subsitute my rev 1 card with a rev 2.

I am thinking to ring them tomorrow and actually go for this one anyway

Since I am not really confident about flashing the card to a 6970 anyway and I could do with some games to pay on my new monster of a pc :) the difference in price i would pay from the card would cover the cost of the games i`m getting.

Are there any other cards within the £250 to £275 range that people would recommend over that one above?

Its a reference design just like the most of them, the only difference is the sticker attached to it and the box design, at £240 its bang for buck is great, due friday, can you wait that long?

The OCUK GTX570 is in stock also, I thought you wanted this by the weekend if I remember correctly?

There seems to be a lot of stuff out of stock at OCUK, I wonder if the earthquake is causing an effect?

although I would ideally like all my stuff on Friday I can wait until Monday. I actually only live about 15 miles away from OC so i might have the option of driving up and collecting the card on the saturday. I will have to wait and see what happens when I ring tomorrow

Ok, phone OC today and it seems they have had a bundle of the MSI 6950 cards into stock so I will be getting the orginal Rev 1 card that I actually ordered.

While on the phone I was told I wouldnt be getting my headset that I ordered becuase they were out of stock.

Now, I dont have to spend the money on a headset but i do have to spend the money since i`m getting it on finance and they also have to send out the items all together in one parcel so its not a case of just waiting for the headset to come into stock either. actually quite annoying becuase I did want that headset but dont want it to delay getting the items for a week. so, my question is really were can I spend the extra £55 or so on my system to benifit it?

Not even sure I will do that might actually wait a week for it all but was getting excited about the items arriving this weekend as its like christmas for geeks!.

i have a Razor Lycosa and Naga that I will be using from my old pc so although I would like a new keyboard to have everything new (The Naga is a new replacement from a broken one) I will stick with this one for now. My wife has suggested getting a printer but not sure I could get a good one for £55?

I dont have the first clue about printers, all i know is the ink costs more than the actual printer*
