Hi. It's been years since I've been on here but my rig with it's trusty overclocked on here as my trust Dual Core Intel E5200, with it's 8 gig of memory and ATI Radeon HD4800 graphics card is looking like it's finally going to give up the ghost.

I'm so out of touch with what's out there these days (the only thing I know is that the prices have shot up!) but not too sure I want to do a custom build again, but could be persuaded.

Mainly used for office tasks, watching video and very light gaming (strategy games mostly).

Had a look at the site and wondering if something like this would be a good bet and a noticeable upgrade from what I have now? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...onfigurable-comet-lake-home-pc-fs-1f7-og.html

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I don't think you'll enjoy games a whole lot with a 1030. Ideally you'll be better off part picking yourself if you're capable of putting it together.

Thanks for the fast responses. I guess I'd be limited by the mobo for upgrades etc? I guess from the comments I could get better for my money then!

As little as possible.. I didn't really want to much beyond £700 but flexible. Also was looking for a small case. I've always used Lian Li so have a thing for them. Component wise I'm completely out of touch. I don't need a second drive as recently replaced in my current unit. Nothing else salvageable though.

You will be blown away by the improvements in graphics with something even as modest as a RX 6600. For a case take a long look at the Kolink Citadel Mesh I have a thread about it here.

The bang for the buck CPUs right now are the Ryzen 5600 (£200) and Intel 12400 (£220), with the Intel 12600 being the next one up and the Intel 12100 being the next one down. Do note that the Ryzen's AM4 socket is on its last hurrah whereas the Intel LGA1700 has one more round of CPUs to come.

I don't need a second drive as recently replaced in my current unit.

Is this a 3.5" HDD or a 2.5" SSD?

This is what I'd consider entry level. Assuming you find a windows license on the back of a lorry.

I'm also wondering what monitors you have, because there's a chance they're VGA or DVI and you won't find those connectors on graphics cards anymore. You can get adaptors, but it's better to just get new monitors because monitor tech has improved a lot.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £887.74 (includes delivery: £15.90)

Currently running a couple of Dell U2414H monitors that have HDMI (running DVI out to HDMI cables)

That certainly looks some nice kit. Thanks for that. I'll take a proper look over tomorrow and see if I can muster up the energy for a build. :-)

The Kolink Citadel Mesh is £52.99 And I don't think you need to spend that much on a PSU: you can run a RX6600 on a 450W PSU for much less. The Bitfenix Formula Gold is £60 and was well reviewed by Tomshardware.

Do note that many GPUs have only one HDMI port so you will likely need a Displayport cable for one monitor.
Agreed, PSU is overkill and expensive. Put some of that saving towards a bigger SSD or better CPU.
