Hi all I have a budget of £400 ish

I havent bought hardware in sometime and quite out of touch.

Want a pc for general surfing and gaming. ( COD:black Ops BF1943 etc)

I have :
Monitor,Keyboard,mouse
and
It may not be quite up to scratch but hopefully should keep me going for a while
9800 GT PCI-E 1024 DDR3 TV-OUT 2DVI graphics card

So basically i have £400 to buy the tower and everything in it except the graphics card.

any help would be greatly appriciated

tedac

would love to be able to just chuck the card and up the cash but unfortunately stuck on a bit of a budget.

have already been given the card, is it that bad ?

guess i would generally run the monitor in 1280x1024

thanks for any advice :)

its not bad, it will still play games at decent settings/fps my friend has a 1gb hd4870 with a e2140@:3.2GHz and he can still play games at med-high settings

So far I've come up with an i5 build with a 250GB hard drive and Corsair PSU but only 25 quid left for a case =/.

So you could go with that and get a reallllly cheapy case.

Or pop down to i3 and have about 60 quid for a case.

The next 500GB up after that 250 is a F2 ECOGREEN.

The next 500GB up that is a normal one is 3 quid more though, so you could go with that.
(nvm saw the this week only offer drive)

You have to realise he's on a really tight budget.

MSI P55A-G55 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard - £89.99

Pretty much what I had specced up, except this RAM saves 2 quid, is better and has lifetime warranty.

looks good so far thanks,

suppose i could push to £450 max. Just dont want to up the card just yet as i will be able to in a few months.

any more ideas :)

there edit the spec i did which was a "refined" spec of masons..................
ugh...dont really want to get into this mess.....corsair also has lifetime warranty.....and i will not accept that patriot viper is better than the corsair xms3 because it save £2.......

It's not a competition ;) lol. More options is always a good thing :P. I know what you mean about RAM. Both are good, and that RAM is certified to run at AMD voltages and not intel. Still I think it will be fine. Up to you tedaC.

If you can up your budget by 50 quid then I would get a seperate PSU + Case but that's just me.

Hmm if he can upgrade it in a few months then I think there are 2 good choices to go down.

Either way if you go 1156 or AM3 you're upgradability is going to be limited because they're both become EOL within 6 months.

So if you say you can upgrade in a few months I say go for one of the following:

- AM3 Athlon as specced by Renni, Then upgrades to a Phenom II

- i3 and then upgrades to i5, i7 8XX

why go i3?
he can go i5 now and then upgrade to i7 8xx......
no need to go at the start of the scale :D as the man Cookeh taught me, i5 7xx and i7 8xx still destroys the phenoms x4 and x6 :D
and i think hes talking about the graphics card
