New PC not booting.

Hi guys, having an issue with my new build.

It will not boot, all fans spool up including GPU + CPU but after a few secs it just turns off. There is a kind of shorting sound when I press the power button but not sure what the issue is.

I have checked all connections to make sure they are secure but still no boot. Also removed 4GB of the 8GB RAM since I've heard issues about PC's not booting at first with 8GB but again, no luck.

All the components are brand new except for the PSU which I am using from my old PC, specs below:

CPU: i5 2500k (cooled with CM Hyper 212 plus, ensured it's secured properly)
RAM: 8GB Geil DDR3 1333
GPU: MSI GTX 560Ti
MOBO: MSI P67A-C43
PSU: Enermax Galaxy 1000w
CASE: CM690 II Advanced

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. You may have the back of the motherboard touching the case thus shorting it out. On my first build I forgot to put in the spacers (They are hexagonal in cross section, have a screw on their base which allows them to be inserted into the motherboard and they have a thread in their upper surface that allows the motherboard's retaining screws to be inserted into them) in and what you discribed happened to me.

I usualy set everything up on an antistatic bag on top of the motherboard box just to test its working before I put it in the case.

All the spacers are installed though the backplate from the cooler appears to be touching the back of the case, could that be causing a short? If that's not the issue then I will take it all out and try a boot.

EDIT: The shorting sound appears to be coming from the PSU if that is of any relevance?
