So my old PC died (like really dead...) and the only thing i could save was my GPU (thank god...) wich its a Hd 5770 (old i know...)

ok so i need a new PC... and i need a little of advice in some things, i will have to buy everything new but i dont know if i should go ahead and change my GPU right now, or stick with the 5770 for a year or so, save some more and get a better one when the time comes...

Keep in mind that i dont have money to change the monitor, so i WILL HAVE to stick with a maximun resolution of 1280x720 (maybe a 1920x1080 if i change my TV but i highly doubt it since the PS3/360 and TV are in that one and thats for the family)

So i have 2 options, this is A WHOLE NEW CPU

CPU: i5 2500k (around £180)
Motherboard: GA-Z68AP-D3 motherboard (£75)
RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB DDR3 (2x4GB) (£42)
GPU: Vapor-X HD6870 1gb GDDR5 (£140)

and this is one with mostly the same except sticking with my

GPU: XFX HD5770 1gb GDDR5 (0, since i already own it)

so if ill have to keep the monitor for quite some time, maybe a year or so, year and a half AT MOST (that one is the most i can waste, not a single extra), should i just go ahead and change my GPU or stick with the HD 5770, save money, and when i get my new monitor (should be a FullHD one, or even better if i can find one) change it for something better than the 6870... ?

My real concern is that will the 5770 hold its own against newer games and stuff at 1280x720 for the next 1-2 years ?

thank you very much

Did your CPU burn too? You should look into buying 3570K and Z77 motherboard since they are updates of stuff you listed above. With 2500k or 3570k your gpu for sure would be the piece that would hold you down

yep, cpu died, at least it was my "soon to be" upgraded pc (but not for a year or so, so this rush me into the upgrade)

is there benchmarks between the 2500k/3570k ? and whats the diff between the Z68 and the Z77 ?

I had the same question, and finally opted for 3570K and Z77 because it's the last generation, has PCI express 3.0 so is a little but more future proof, and as pricing is very similar , I say it's no brainer

Look at this, that what I just bought, and you get 8GB free RAM :)
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £181.99
1 x MSI Z77A-GD65 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** With FREE GeIL Black Dragon 8GB Kit ** £142.99
Total : £336.98 (includes shipping : £10.00).

The HD6850 should save you around £50 it's way better than the 6870 for the money..

Not really theres 15 pounds difference between the 2....

You can get AMD 6870 which is around 100 pounds if you shop around, it will give you about 80% better performance than you current graphics.

So something like this + 100 pounds for 6870

About 2500k vs 3570K, 3 series are the new generation of CPU and so are Z77 motherboards, Why buy out-dated hardware?
