I was looking to get a new base unit for around £500, but my mate is selling his iMac.

Spec as follows:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.0ghz
RAM: 1GB DDR2
Graphics: ATI RADEON 1600 with 128mb vram
Hard Drive: 160GB SATA
Screen Resolution: 1440x900
Built in iSight webcam
Built In Bluetooth
Built In Wireless (airport)
Apple Remote Control (to use Frontrow Media Center)
Apple Pro Keyboard And Pro Mouse (bluetooth, wireless)
Comes Installed with OS X 10.4 Tiger (and CD)
Including iLife 07 (And CD)

It's not even a year old and he wants £600 for it.

I mainly use my PC for web design and a bit of audio editing, along with the usual web browsing, email etc.

Would the iMac suit my needs better, or will a £500 base unit be more powerful?

I'm leaning towards the mac because it's something new to me, but I think I could get a more powerful spec for £500?

Opinions appreciated!

To be honest i've had limited experience with OSX, we have a 24" iMac at work which I use now and again but thats pretty much it.
