Hi guys,

been toying with some specs for a new PC for a few months now and I've just had a nice revate from the Taxman. I just need to convince my wife :)

Anyway, I'm looking at investing in a case, watercooling and a PSU that will last for a while and basing the rest around an i5 2500k. I've already got a Gigabyte GTX 570 SOC that I'll trandfer over and look at upgrading with the next generation. It'll mainly be for gaming (at 1920x1200) but I also use it for work (large Excel spredasheets), Bluray ripping for my HTPC, photo editing using Lightroom and finally music editing using Adobe Audition.

Here's my potential list:

That price is probably my limit. I've already got an IBM 80Gb SSD card, I've added the Crucial M4 as a nice to have upgrade. I've already got hard drives for my data and a SB Fatality sound card.

I've currently got an Antec P160 but I'd like something larger, particularly if I'm going to have a go at water cooling. I've looked at the 650D, but think it might be a bit too cramped. I like the idea of an 800D with plenty of room so that I can access everything easily without cutting my knuckles :)

Anyway, thoughts, suggestions?

£50 to £100 extra for the CPU might be wise, especially when I'm encoding.

What about the motherboard - any suggestions / alternatives? I'd like the option of 2 graphics cards in the future, just in case.

That's a good looking board. I like them nice and black so my case won't look like a tart ;-p

Do the i7's clock as well as the i5? Should I be able to get 5GHz with the watercooled case?

Is the Gigabyte I posted not Gen 3? What do Gen 3 offer?

It is Gen3 compatible to the top slot that is wired by 8 lanes directly to the CPU socket, for Gen3 you will need a ivvybridge CPU (due next year) and a next gen graphics card due also next year I think now.
