Hi guys,

I'm currently on my second set of Logitech Z623 speakers, they're great but I've had various issues... if my third set, arriving tomorrow, aren't any better - I'm going to be in the market again. I'm after protentional recommendations. It's a shame because they're great speakers but Logitech's QA is shocking!

I only need 2x speakers, a sub is nice but if the speakers pack enough of a bass punch that's okay. What is everyone else using these days?

Used for gaming/music. I'm by no means an audiophile :D

Thanks.

They're not good at all. I used to have them as well, then I spent 600 on a pair of desktop speakers and a sub and when I compared them side by side I realised that Logitech speakers sound like rattling Tin cans

Thanks everyone! On my third set of Logitech's now and so far so good...

If anything changes though, I'm sticking to around the £200 mark?

T amp and £150 speakers.

Wharfedale diamond 9.0 will wee all over Logitech rubbish
That's the thing though... these are for my PC, I don't really want to start adding amps into the equation?

I've heard good things about those Wharfedales though - really good entry level speakers by all accounts.

Look for a 2nd hand hifi amp and a set of Bowers & Wilkins DM601S3 speakers. Mine are 21 years old, in pristine condition and still sound great so I have no problem recommending them if you can find a pair in good condition (pay careful attention to the rubber surrounding the main driver and look for pristine tweeters).

If you want more bass, look for a REL or BK Electronics subwoofer as they have high level connections which run from your speaker terminals - removes the need for the amp to have a sub output or for you to use the sub out on your pc. Got a REL T7x on a black friday deal and it's transformed how my whole system sounds compared to my old Logitech sub.

All speakers have amps, on Logitech pap they're inside unit.

T amps are tiny size of two cigarette packs

The other issue with Logitech speakers (apart from sounding tinny and hollow is that the kits that have subwoofers (like the z623) are also "thx certified" and all that means is that the frequency curve has been tuned for pure ass; the bass is pumped way way up and just blows out everything - it's ok for movies but wow it's horrible for music and games.

But the thing is you never notice any of this until you listen to the z623 next to another set of speakers and sub playing the same thing

Human ears and the brain is great at normalising audio - until you actually compare stuff side by side your ears and brain will think what you are listening to is fine/good. But maybe that's a good thing - if you want to save your wallet, never listen to high end speakers and headphones

Prodipe Pro V5's.

Front ported, quite relaxed (not tiring) for studio monitors, quite a flat curve, bi-amped. Should out perform similar money on say an Edifier.

You will require stands, isolation foam plus reasonable quality source to get best from them.
