Looking for PC build critique. Current system died and rather than troubleshoot I think it's time to treat myself.

I'm a casual user and gamer, probably not going to OC, hence why i've not gone for the 'top' everything. Good CPU, average memory, etc. Please let me know if any of these is a mistake.....

I don't really have a budget, happy to spend more.

Questions:

- Memory - should I be looking at 4 x 4GB chips?

- Can you recommend a PSU? Looking for quite quiet and no blue lights! (other items powered are an additional SSD, two Disk drives, a few fans).

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £795.94
(includes shipping: £0.00)

As above you'll need a cooler for the 6600K as they don't come with one.

128GB SSD is pretty small these days so maybe up that to 240+?

I would stick with 2400mhz memory as faster isn't going to give you any noticeable increase in performance or FPS in games.

Whats your usage and what monitor are you using?

you could look at this

Reasonable mobo/cpu bundle and price. You'll also need a cooler for that 6600K unless you plan to reuse one you already have

Thanks, i'll review the mobo.

I have a H1200 enclosed watercooler for an 1155 socket. Looking online the same will work for the 1151 socket on the same brackett - I just have to move the pins.

Oh, so 2400mhz is better than 3200mhz? I assume there is another stat there that i'm missing, I lose something as I up the mhz.

I'm a casual gamer and use it for general work and play. Not a big overclocker or FPS chaser.

I have the Philips 40" 4K monitor.

Wait, so I should be going for 3200mhz? :)

3000Mhz or greater.

But the price starts to make the gains less worth while, but there have been tests online with fast ram and skylake cpus and it can add some helpful fps.

Forgot to add, on the SSD front I will use the 128GB for OS and a few choice games and apps.

I have an OCZ bigfoot 480GB SSD and 2 x 1TB drives for general stuff.

Thanks, the memory I quoted above is 3200mhz.

Does 4x4 do better than 2x8 in terms of performance?

The cpu has a dual channel memory controller so 2X is all you need, X99 has a quad channel for 4X RAM.

Got any links? Not saying you're wrong just from what I gathered before I thought after 2400mhz the FPS gains were minimal.
