I posted several days ago re a new system and the replies got me thinking about what might be best. I have abandoned the idea of using my existing GFX card and have decided to go for a decent / balanced system that will handle most things.
I have added an SSD to utilise the SRT utility to generally make things faster - is this recommended or am I wasting my time?

With regard to the MB and Ram does it make much of a difference at this sort of price point? I had thought of an Asus P8Z68-V Intel Z68 board, would this be of any benefit.

I intend to OC the 2500K myself - although I do not have a great deal of experience I understand that a moderate overclock can be achieved using the board EFI bios.

I do not intend to go SLi - is the PSU sufficient or could I save some money lastly Iwould also like it to be as quiet as possible although this is not a deal breaker.

I would like to keep the budget as close to the £700 as possible.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Get a bigger SSD. 30GB really really isn't enough.

I've got Windows 7 and the minimum app's installed (no games) and it's using up 41GB!

The idea is to use the SSD as a cache for the main HDD using the boards Smart Response Technology, thus avoiding having to spend a lot on a bigger SSD.

Hi there, I have the same processor, ram and mobo. Got it last week, and I'm happy with it.

I went for a 64GB SSD as I'm already using 39gb (will be more when this service pack installs)

Thats good to hear - have you set the SSD up using the SRT or as a standalone drive.
Have you overclocked it yet? if so was it straight forward to do? Sorry I am a bit of a noob at overclocking:)

Thanks for the thumbs up - appreciated. Sorry to labour the point about the SRT and overclocking its just that I am a bit nervous regarding both aspects. Any advice would be welcome

Overclocking is simple, set the multiplier to 40X instead of stock 33X and it will boot straight up, even a easy 4.5GHz only requires a slight more Vcore.

SRT is not as quick as using a SSD as a drive, it's a sort of 1/2 way compromise between a SSD and a hard drive. also depends on usage. Gigabytes have EZ Smart Response utility. A bit unsure about it. Seems like a good idea, will probably rely on how it is setup, if you can select what files / directories / partitions to cache, ect... The Momentus XT is a precursor to that technology, although not as performant due to the smaller cache, and probably implementation :)

I already have a 1TB F3 drive that I could use.
Therefore would it be more beneficial to have a larger SSD just as the boot drive - I am guessing it is! If so which one and what size would be best.

I have just checked my Windows and Program files and they currently stand at about 39GB. Would I be ok with a 64GB SSD or would it be best to use a 100+
Cheers
