Hi,

A friend of mine has been looking into building his first PC and has a budget of about £1000. He has given me the following spec and asked me what I think. Well first of all it's been 3 years since I last looked at building a PC so I am a little out of touch, but here is what he has given me, The main aim is to play GW2 with everything on max but this is for gaming and he doesn't want to have to upgrade for a few years

CPU:

Intel Core i7-3820 3.6GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA2011

Mobo:

Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 Intel X79 Socket 2011 Motherboard

GFX:

Asus HD 7950 TOP 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

PSU:

OCZ Technology PSU, ModXStream Pro, 700W - UK

HDD:

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB Cache WD10EALX

DVD:

LiteOn 12x Blu-Ray Combo Internal SATA Black

Cooling:

Akasa AK-CC4008HP01 Venom Voodoo CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/LGA2011/AM2/AM3 [AK-CC4008HP01]

Case:

Zalman Z11 Plus High Performance Mid Tower Case

Monitor:

Viewsonic VX2210MH-LED 22" Monitor with HDMI

Keyboard:
Microsoft SideWinder X4 Gaming Keyboard - Retail (JQD-00006

My initial thoughts were would the Heatsink allow all the RAM to be fitted or would it block the RAM slots? Also can anyone suggest any changes to the kit. He is moving from Laptop and this will be his first PC so he does need the Monitor.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks for the suggestions. I wasn't sure if Core i5 would still be any good or not. As for RAM yeah 8Gb is what I run and I see no problems. With the Shopping list given I see he would be getting an SSD as well, so a big boost in performance.
