well i'm out of the loop and have been running my p4 for about 5+ years so i think im well due an upgrade 
i'm looking at a new build with a budget of ~£450 but i only need the following compenents: psu, cpu, mobo, memory. of course, less spent the better and i most likely will not be overclocking so don't need the expensive extras to do so. i'll be happy if its stable and quiet. possibly add in a decent cpu cooler if the stock one is loud?
im guessing pc parts are still the same in that after a certain 'point' the price just explodes and you don't really get much more performance increase. i'm not looking for anything like this and want decent cost/performance ratios if possible. i'm thinking a system built on the intel i5 chip will suit my needs?
also on a seperate budget of £200, i'm gonna need a graphics card.
my comp will mainly be used for graphics work (possibly some video editing too), media and some gaming. i would like the option to run games at a decent level although i will not need to run crysis 2 on max... although if i can for the price, i wont complain
