Needs some help with a New Pc Specs/ Compatibility

Hi All,

I am looking to build a new Pc and could do with some Pro advice from you guys.
Id like to think I am fairly computer literate and I have put together some components, I wouldn't mind a few answers to some questions i have regarding it tho.

  • Is it all compatible ?
  • Pretty sure the PSU is man enough..any thoughts?
  • Do i REALLY need the V Extreme or is the Formula just as good ?
  • Main concern is the RAM, i want 32GB down the line, But will make do with 16GB to start with. Whats the best? whats reliable? What you do you recommend?
----------------------------------------------
Requirements / Budget.

I am an avid gamer so FPS is a must, But also hold a degree in Digital animation, so Rendering and Editing power is also Key.

Eventually want to max out the RAM, and will eventually Look towards SLI.

£2.500 MAX

-----------------------------------------------

Components:

Processor
  • Intel® Core™ i7-3770K Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz) Socket:1155 Ivy Bridge.
MotherBoard
  • Maximus V Extreme or
  • Maximus V Formula
GPU
  • 4GB Asus GTX 690
PSU
  • OCZ 1000W Fatal1ty Series
RAM
  • Corsair Memory Dominator Platinum 16GB (2x8gb) DDR3 1600 MHz (Possibly x2)
Case
  • Cooler Master Storm Stryker White/Black
HDD's
  • OCZ Vertex 4 128GB
  • OCZ Vertex 4 256 GB
  • Western Digital Caviar Red 3TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache (Pre-order)
---------------------------------------

I already have a Coolmaster V8 Air Cooler, which ill probably swap out. It does a nice job, but any other suggestions would be appriciated (too scared of watercooling :P )

I think that's everything? Anything I have forgotten let me know.

Oh and any Overclocker staff reading ...There is a good chance i will be buying from yourselves so CONVINCE me to buy. :)

Thanks for reading. Cheers for any reply's.

Dominic

All the items you specced are compatible, yes. but you can get more for your money, the psu for one i'd change and im not too sure on the gtx 690, gtx 670 SLI comes close to it (while saving £150) though SLI can have issues too.

This is what i'd do, look how pretty and black it is :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus GeForce GTX 690 4096MB PCI-Express Graphics Card £839.99
1 x Corsair & Intel Hydro Cooler Bundle - Corsair H100 + Intel i7 3770K OEM £336.37
1 x Asus Z77 Sabertooth Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £181.99
1 x Corsair Dominator PLATINUM 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit with DHX Pro Connector (CMD16GX3M2A1866C9) £179.99
1 x OCZ Vertex 4 256GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (VTX4-25SAT3-256G) £179.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Midi Tower - Black £149.99
1 x Silverstone Strider 1200W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply (SST-ST1200-G) £129.98
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) £74.99
Total : £2,088.29 (includes shipping : £12.50).

Cheers for the reply Doomedspeed :)

I shall definitely look into the components you've suggested with a fine tooth comb :)
I just have a few quick questions off the top of my head.
  • I am not too sure on the Water cooling option. Ive never gone down that route before and would not feel confident putting it together to be honest. ( or is it easier than i am thinking? ) Could you suggest any other Air based cooler? or would me V8 be just fine?
  • Ive taken a look at Sabertooth Boards before, and they look pretty impressive. Any reason why you would pick that over the Rampage?

Also what the whoo har over the 2011 sockets (i7-3960X)

Is the CPU specs of the Top 1155 chip worth the drop compared to the i7-3960X, Is the new technology of the Ivy bridge Chip worth it ?
