Morning all,
It's (finally) new PC time. My current system was built back in 2011, and was mid-range then (Intel i5, 8GB RAM, GeForce GTX 460 1GB(!) win10 etc). I've recently moved house and set it up again after some time in a box and it's old, slow to boot, clogged up, nothing will update anymore because everything is too old...
Main usage will be general home office use, but do run some music software (Sibelius for sheet music engraving and Reaper for DAW/recording/home studio). I no longer have much time for gaming (with two small children and a house to finish) but I'm partial to a bit of sim-racing and flight-simming when time allows, so I will include a graphics card although I'm not looking for ultimate maximum fps, but much more for convenience/value with some mid-range components.
On the convenience front, I'm also keen on looking at some of the pre-built bundles OCUK offer with a total budget I've set of around £1k, which will having to include a new monitor as my old Viewsonic 17" square-flatscreen is decidedly dated now...
I have my eye currently on this:
It's got a Ryzen 5 5500 and Geforce RTX 4060, which a brief look seems to offer what I'm after. I'd consider configuring the 16GB up to 32GB RAM considering my music software situation which brings the total cost to £850 for the PC itself, but other than that I'd leave it as-is. The fact that it comes pre-built with Windows 11 installed is a massive bonus.
What thinks the OCUK hivemind?!
