Is it worth be going core2 yet? from rig in sig if it is can u spec me up I like to OC as you can tell so I want best bang 4 buck and I am likley going to be running Vista/XPpro/Ubuntu multiboot system.

Are you going to be gaming?

If you are overclocking you could go for the e6300 or the e6600 but dont get an e6400 or e6700 is there isnt much difference and you are ocing anyway.

If you have the money then why not? The c2d E6300 offers excellent bang for buck and once clocked it will tear most AMD's apart. if you have a little more money then the E6600 is also an excellent choice. Getting a c2d would also "future proof" your computer with regards to multi threaded applications. If you have the money then yes.

But ask yourself this, does your current rig do everything you ask of it? If it does then don't bother :)

it does al that I want and true I dont game as much, but i just love building/tweaking new gear! and my comp is fairly loud are *** C2D built comps quiet? I suspect its my X1800 thats the culprit anyway

My setup is silent tbh I can barely tell that its even on! The only noisy thing is the GFX card @ POST and when gaming apart from that it's as quiet as they come. Probably is your x1800 tbh :p But theres my opinion anyway, I know how you feel about tweaking new gear :D
