Hai computer forumers, I have very limited knowledge of building a PC and little time to learn how to do it (I realise it'll be cheaper if I do, etc). As such I'm planning on getting a pre-built from Overclockers and was wondering on your thoughts of the below:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...913&catid=2932

- Power Supply: Super Flower 450W 80+ Bronze Rated PSU
- CPU: Intel Core i5 4690 3.50GHz Haswell Quad Core CPU Turbo Speed 3.9GHz
- Motherboard: Asus Z97-K (Socket 1150) ATX Motherboard
- Cooler: Prolimatech CPU Cooler
- RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
- Primary Hard Drive: Samsung 250GB 840 Evo Series Solid State Drive
- Secondary Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
- Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 1024MB Graphics Card
- Sound: Realtek 7.1 Channel Sound (On-Board)
- Optical Drive: OcUK DVD+/-RW SATA Drive

Will this sort me out, i.e. decent FPS in 25 mans, running on Ultra (something I can only dream of at the minute)? My budget is about £800 tops really (inc operating system, gonna use Win 8.1 - currently still running XP on my old system) so any alternatives would be gratefully received - I'm not really sure enough of these things to use the System Configuration tool on Overclockers. If I did would I want the processor overclocked by 10% or 12.5%, if at all? I'm a little worried by the power supply in the above model as I hear it's a bit low and might make future builds tricky. Thanks in advance guys.

Hi and welcome,

That link doesn't seem to work?

I think OcUK charge around £60 to build so;

YOUR BASKET
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £179.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £77.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £61.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2400HC11CDC01) £56.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £49.99
1 x SK Hynix 128GB SSD SH910A SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (HFS128G32MNB-2201A) £44.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD10EZRX) **SINGLE PLATTER** HDD £42.95
1 x Xigmatek Mach Midi-Tower Black £19.99
Total : £744.47 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Larger PSU, MUCH more powerful graphics card, overclockable CPU, smaller SSD and HDD but I feel this is an ok sacrifice for much more GPU performance

Hai there,

So after starting this post I never ended up buying a new PC, due to Xmas penny-pinching, etc. Now though I'm going to be getting married in four months and it's dawned on me that in the future I'll need to consult with my wife regarding big-budget spends. So this is my last chance for a full-on blowout!

Can anyone suggest me an updated version of the above specs? I'm still gonna go for an i5 4690k and get Overclockers to, well, overclock it for me, as I've read i7 is unnecessary for WoW. That said, I understand that Broadwell and Skylake are due out later this year - is it worth holding out for these or just biting the bullet now?

I'm thinking of maybe future-proofing my RAM and getting 16GB of rather than 8, but have no idea which types to get.

Any thoughts on the GPU - I was a bit sceptical of the R9 because I'd read somewhere that WoW doesn't seem to like AMD as much as Nvidia, though in truth my last two cards have been AMD Radeon ones. I've also read that the GTX 970 is going to be preferable to the R9 290 and similarly priced from what I can tell.

I'm planning on getting an SSD 250 for my OS and WoW, then using my old 500GB hardrive for music files and everything else to save some cash. Equally the DVD drive in my old PC seems to work fine so I figured just take it out and move it into the new PC.

Case-wise (not-sure how important these are) I was thinking the Zalman Z9 Plus Tower Case with Fan Controller cos it looks pretty badass: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-037-ZA

So, can anyone comment - I realise the above is probably gonna be more expensive than I originally budgeted for but screw it I say!

Thats roughly what you are after.

It would help if you told me exactly how much you want to spend just on the parts.

the £60 quoted above is not entirely accurate, that would be for a simpler setup that take less man hours to assemble and this fee scales up depending on the complexity of the build and certainly if you want it overclocked for you as that requires hours of stress testing and checking.

Eventually the price maybe so high it is easier to just buy one of the systems OcUK has listed.

Broadwell is basically a more energy efficient Haswell/Devils canyon, but Skylake is a better boost, uses a new chipset and depending on the board could be DDR3 or DDR4.

Nvidia cards have traditionally been better in WoW than AMD/ATI ones, but going from comments from some WoW players, the latest updates have push the graphical requirements up - it might be worth asking some of the WoW players in the graphics card forum whether the GTX770 or R9 290 would be preferable now.

Edit!!

I wonder if there are some GTX970 deals about in the clearance section at all??
