i think your prob is software related...

after you built the pc did you install a fresh copy of windows on the 1.5gb hdd?

yes i installed a fresh copy of it directly onto the hdd. Do you think it would be a good idea to totally format and try again?

Might as well, I dont think XP will fit onto a 1.5gb drive though or are you using another version?

It does! surprisingly with about 130Mb to spare... its just until i can afford to get a new one...

i recently had an invalid system disk error and it turned out to be the xp cd was faulty....

i know it installs for u but as your drive is so small perhaps its not copying all files ?

Even if you've managed to fit Windows, where does the Pagefile go? For your RAM alone you require 768MB!! C'mon m8 you can pick up something like 40gb for less than £20 incl. P&P from that famous auction site! Just skip a night out or something? :confused:

I don't think so, i'm only 15 and personally i'd rather go out than cut a few weeks off the time it takes to get a hdd.

And anyway i found an extra 3.5gb drive to use as well.

Boot problems are now solved, re-installed windows and everything is fine now. Thanks for all the help everyone much appreciated even if it was just laughing at the size of my hard-drives
