ok i have recently started building a pc for a friend and it mainly consists of

AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ retail (AM2)
Asus M2V pci-express ddr2 mobo (AM2)
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

ive followed the instructions in the mobo manual carefully then when i come to boot up the pc nothing happens, the pc powers up i can hear the hard drive power up, but the monitor light stays orange and nothing apears on screen. the case is an Antec NSK6500 which i dont belive has a speaker, i cant find anything about the speaker in the manual for the case. I have made sure that the 24pin and the 4 pin connectors are connected and everything else seems fine.

any ideas on why nothing is happening?

cheers

check all the cable are in the rite way like the hdd and cd/dvd drives cables
check the gfx is in proper and the heatsink is on the cpu proper

surely the cables can only connect 1 way?

im using an old cd rom at the moment, is there likely to compatability issues with that?

ill give it another once over but i really cant see where ive gone wrong

cheers again

Hello :)

What graphics card may i ask you have installed? And what psu?

I presume the cpu fan etc spin up as well, but they dont slow down?

You dont get any post beeps at all then? Or is there not a speaker connected / a speaker on the motherboard...If you get no post beeps, but you have a speaker, try booting the system without the ram installed to see if it beeps then (Which is should...3 long beeps)

One other thing you can try is unplugging the unnnecessary periphials, such as the floppy / cd-rom etc.

the graphics card is an ASUS GeForce 8600gt 256mb

all of the fans start to spin and stay constant.

ill have another look for a speaker but i can seem to find any on the case or mobo.

ill go try booting without the ram now

Well as you got the 3 beeps it means the cpu isnt borked....Theoretically.

So now you can try the ram one stick at a time in each slot, see if that will let the system boot.

Also make sure the graphics card has power going to it if it require it.

I'd suggest removing all the drive connectors from the motherboard and any expansion cards (soundcards, modems etc) that are not required to boot the machine. Also check the reset cmos jumper is set to normal (if the board has one). Its also worth checking that the ram and GFX card are firmly in there slots.

edit:
ignore now you've fixed it
