New PC Won't POST

I can't get my new pc build to post. I've taken it out of the case. The only things attached are the processor, heatsink (went back to stock one) and computer monitor cable (onboard graphics). I have the system speaker also connected however it makes no sounds at all.

The CPU fan runs. I have no idea where the problem lies as all the parts are new and my current system is so old I can't check anything on it.

Cleared CMOS numerous times.

I have taken right back as far as I can take it so only a psu connection, monitor connection, power supply fan connector and cpu fan cooler connection. All in securely.

My new build is:
Gigabyte GA880GA-UD3H Mobo (using onboard graphics)
Antec TruePower New 650w
2x2GB GSkill CL7 RipJaw DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600Mhz) RAM
Athlon II x4 640 3ghz processor
Antec Freezer Rev 2 Cooler (thought reverted to stock to eliminate a problem with the install).
Coolermaster Elite 430 Case.

No it was obvious that I wasn't going to be able to install so I gave up pretty quickly. In any case even if I wrecked one stick of RAM the other should work on its own however neither seems to help.

I haven't tried a gpu because I don't have a pci-express one. My old one is a pci one. Hence the reason for the major overhaul. I've tried both vga and dvi to hdmi connections but neither work and on two different monitors.

When I turn the power the screen wakes but it's blank. It's as if the cable senses something but then all stops. The same with the usb connector for the wireless keyboard and mouse it flashes all it's light but they disappear almost immediately.

I found another of those speakers from another build and it doesn't beep either so probably not that.

I think they all have laptops. Will have to check tomorrow and see. I think I'm done for tonight anyway. TBC and thanks for the advice so far everyone.

Remove the RAM and restart if no beeps indicating RAM not fitted I would say the MB is goosed!!!

:)

I've done that numerous times and still no beeps. Yeah I was thinking mobo is shot however I seen on a thread I was looking when searching for answers that a dead processor will also mean that you get no beeps. Is that your understanding?

Without another system that I know works to test things in I'm not sure what to rma.

Post photos, if you can, of the power leads going into the motherboard. I know people have mentioned it and you think it's ok, but I and several others I know have been caught out with incorrect power connections before.

At work just now so will certainly do that this evening when I get home.

OK after fighting with ubuntu to mount my camera I've finally got photos uploaded to flickr.

Here's a link to one. There are bunch of others there as none of them are that great. The camera flash was throwing too much light up off the board but hopefully you can see enough.

Thanks. I installed the processor, fan, ram, case connections, front panel connectors on the box that the mobo came in before moving into the case. Then installed the psu as it is easier to get the board in when that's not in the road. I guess I could have shorted something but I would go about doing the build in the same way again and its the same as I have always done in the past.

I've actually never had to return any computer components before. How long does the whole process take? Does everything have to be scrutinised before a replacement is sent? I suppose it does as they have to see why it failed? Let's hope it doesn't come back that it was my fault. Just wondering as I will probably have to go back to my other pc if it's going to take a while to sort?

Yeah done that too when I changed over from the AC fan to the stock cooler. There was a bit of thermal paste round the edge of cpu chassis. It wasn't near the pins just round the edges near the top however I think I will take another look at this again just to be absolutely sure there is nothing there.

Yeah when I posted I had more or less gone through absolutely everything I could find on the issue. Just so annoying that I have no other components to swap around to check if it is the processor or the mobo. I'll get there in the end.

I sent both the processor and the board back and the processor was fine and the board was replaced under rma however the new board which arrived today is not working either. I'm ready to cry.

Am I just unlucky are gigabyte boards prone to being dead on arrival? Looks like I will not be able to get this all up and running now before Christmas.

turn the psu on?

Not sure if you are being serious or not but I'm going to assume you are. PSU is on, fan spins on it. CPU cooler fan spins. Case fans spin. No sound from speaker. Memory in, memory out. PSU connected to both the 24 pin socket and the 8 pin cpu power socket.

Doesn't get to boot. Screen doesn't activate. PS2 keyboard lights come on and you can select caps locks, num lock, etc and the lights come on. Tried memory in all slots. It's exactly the same as it was the first time.

I only have 1 system fan, speaker, power switch connector, vga monitor connected, ps2 keyboard, psu connections and cpu cooler fan connected. Nothing else. Never bothered with the hard drives. After my last experience I decided to go minimal just to ensure it worked before I moved everything over from my current pc.
