Hi, this will be the first pc i have properly made since just upgrading doesnt count ^^, but before i order my parts this friday i want someone to check them over and see if they comply with what i am doing.

Im going to be overclocking the processor
Watercooling processor (gpu when i get it)
playing DX10 Games

thanks.

Looks good to me. It I were buying I'd probably step up to an E6420, also on sale, and perhaps drop down to a less expensive motherboard like an Asus P5N-E or a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3P. You might also consider moving to a hard disk with a 16 MiB cache like WD's AAKS series or Seagate's 7200.10 series.

im not looking for speed in my hard drive, just good solid DX10 gaming performance, also im getting the antec nine hundred case because it looks nice and has lots of room for me to fiddle around with.

im quite new to overclocking but have a friend who has told me i should do it if i get a core 2 duo, what would be the differance in buying the same processor type but the 2.13 being a little higher when the 1.86 is going to be overclocked anyway.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but it is far from a roomy case. It's not very well designed, IMO. It's too cramped, is too loud, and makes it difficult for you to manage cables properly. The Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS is a much better engineered case that features a lot of room in which you can work, significantly less noise, and similar if not better cooling.

The E6420 has a multiplier of 9 whilst the E6300 has a multiplier of 7. The practical aspect of this is that you'll probably get a higher overclock with the E6420 as it will be limited by itself rather than the chipset or the RAM. Under water cooling you will be able to take it very high indeed. :)

thanks for the info i have chosen the 4mb 2.13ghz processor over the previous 1.86.

also with the lian li case is it possible to create my own clear side panel or will it cost me a bit more?

im after a case with a clear side panel so i can view the inside (im a bit of a perfectionist and showoff =)

gonna get pc-7 and now motherboard im stuck between choice, its a choice between.

asus P5B-E
Abit Quad GT

Minor correction although I'm assuming it is just a typo, the E6420 has a multiplier of 8x, same as the 6400 that preceded it. Other than that the advice has been spot on. :)

The Lian-Li can have a windowed side-panel but you order it separately.

//edit I'd personally go with the Asus but that is mainly because I like their motherboards than any solid reason.

hey, i just ordered

Gigabyte GA DQ6 965P 775 Motherboard
2gb Crucial Ballistix ram
620w corsair psu
PC-7 Lian-Li case
WD 16mb 160gb S-ATA hdd
C2D 2.13 4mbl2 processor.
