Right... Hey there people, as you can tell from the post count I'm generally new to this forum, so go easyyyyy! :>

Anyway.

My girlfriends PC is absolutely terrible, I'm building her a new one, and I'm wanting to spend as little as possible, really. And all it needs to do is be able browse the net, run Skype, play DVD's/CD's and blah blah.... Just general things. Maybe even use it for Word Processing. I do want a Graphics Card in there as well if possible.... Concerning the size of the system, I want it to be like... the size of one of those Barebones systems you can buy, cause she saw them and said she liked the look. I figure... I might as well see if I can build her a PC with that sorta case with it.

Now my question is, can any of you provide some insight - what should I really be going for in a set up for my Mrs? As long as it boots up at a steady speed, and can handle day-to-day tasks such as music / Skype / MSN... whatever. That's all I need.

You guys got any recommendations for components, or whatever else I should be looking at? I've tried speccing myself a rig but I always feel like I'm choosing the wrong things, or spending too much.

Thanks in advance, guys! :)

Well to be fair mate, I'm hoping you wonderful lot here could spec me a system and I'll say if it's too much... But if you're looking for a number, I'm looking at like... no more than 350 really.

Also, are we just talking about the case and everything that goes in it.. or are any of keyboard, mouse, monitor, OS, etc needed too?

Nope, it's alllll new... Like I say, her old computer is terrible... all dated technology, so I figure we'll start fresh. And go from there - looks like I'm getting an OS as well, but don't take that out of the budget I know that's gonna have to be bought seperately! :O

Damn Microsoft :p

EDIT: Concerning the Keyboard, Mouse... don't need worry about that, it's just the system really.

Roger that. Here is my take on it:

350gf.jpg

Basically:
Core 2 Duo E5200 - 2.5GHz
Barebones case with G31 mobo
2Gb of 667Mhz DDR2 (most mobo supports)
Reasonably basic gfx card
My favourite HDD
Solid psu
A dvd rw

Edit: The barebones comes with a PSU but its only 100W. You either use it and forget about the graphics card or replace it.

Just a general question, I'm starting to believe these Barebones systems come with integrated power supplies? And they can't be changed?

Is that true? Or am I being a bit silly here?
