2 GTX275s would be better than a GTX295, and cheaper...

Asus GeForce GTX 275 896MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card (Includes Terminator Salvation PC Game) £149.99 (x2 = £299.98)
And then flog a copy of the Terminator game to a friend for even further savings ;)

2 HD4890s would also be faster than a GTX295, and even cheaper.

Im using a Sony sdm hs95p display which max is 1280 by 1024.
I think i will settle for the 295, which i will sli at a later date when needed, and the price has gone down

Hmm well then....

With any of those 3 options, you should consider using a 64bit OS, as you will be limiting the OS to only 2G (or less) of system memory if you have 2G of VRAM and a 32bit OS.

Also 896MB of RAM per card will only limit you compared to 1G per card if you are running at 1920x1200 with x8 AA or higher. x4 AA at 1920x1200 is fine with the 896MB cards. What resolution are you aiming for?
