Hi All

I’m looking to buy a new PC haven’t been gaming much other than my PS5 for about 10 years so fancy getting back into it.

I’m looking at the below spec for an early 40th present to myself!

Any changes anyone thinks might be worth doing?

I’ll be playing most of the new games especially like the look of Delta Force.

Specs:

  • 1x Kolink Stronghold Barricade Midi Tower Case - Gunmetal Grey
  • 1x Build Stock AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Eight Core 5.20GHz (Socket AM5) Processor -
  • 1x Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus WIFI (Socket AM5) DDR5 ATX Motherboard
  • 1x Corsair Vengeance EXPO/XMP 32GB (2X16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C36 6000MHz Dual Channel Kit
  • 1x Kolink Umbra Void AIO 240mm Performance ARGB CPU Water Cooler
  • 1x Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT Pulse 20GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • 1x Corsair RMe Series RM1000e Fully Modular Low-Noise ATX Power Supply v2 (CP-9020264-UK)
  • 1x WD Black SN770 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS100T3X0E)

Thanks!

Don't get the Corsair RMe series as it's not as good as the unit it replaced as Corsair has cheaped out on the oem and it only has a 7 year warranty now. The units the new version has replaced were built by CWT and had a 10 year warranty, the new units are built by HEC who I do not rate at all.

My money would go on the just released updated Corsair RMx series that is now ATX 3.1 and come with the latest high power connector (they still have single 6+2 pin pci-e leads, 3 for the 750/850w and 4 for the 1000w). They are currently on offer at several places and the 850w version is £109.99 instead of £147.95 although it's out of stock at OCUK but is in stock elsewhere, The 1000w version is £134.99 instead of £179.99 which is a cracking price for a high quality up to date 1000w psu. Kitguru has reviewed the 850w version here and was very impressed with it and Hardware Busters have reviewed the 1000w version here and were also impressed with it.

As for memory 6000Mhz C30 is the sweet spot for Ryzen and is what I picked for my 7800x3d. For less hassle you could pick a kit that is on your motherboards QVL list but I went for a kit that wasn't on my motherboards QVL list and I have had no problems at all but I could have just been lucky.

The AIO you have chosen is overpriced for a budget 240mm. I would go with the cheaper Thermalright Frozen Notte (the 360mm version is cheaper than the Kolink 240mm) or the ever popular Arctic Liquid Freezer III. You don't really need a AIO to cool a ***X3d cpu as they are easily cooled by a air cooler. I have a Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE120 ARGB on my 7800x3d and it does a cracking job. If buying now I would get the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 which has a extra heatpipe and cools better than the Peerless Assassin but shop around as they are all overpriced on here.

I would also change the case as the Stronghold quite badly restricts the air to the front intake fans. I would choose one with a mesh front for maximum airflow.

Agree with the others on RAM, case, coolers and PSU. Here's what I would look at;

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,667.88 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Just add your drive of choice. Case is a matter of taste, as is motherboard to a certain degree. I've gone B650, which is better value, just needs a BIOS update. Depends what features you need.

Do shop around for all these components, as there may be better prices elsewhere.

Just having a look at this, the ram is XMP and for Intel systems.

You would want an EXPO set of ram for AMD systems

Something like this would work

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £89.99 (includes delivery: £0.00)
