I'm upgrading my phone (o2 contract) at the end of the month, and was planning on getting the XDA mini as it seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.

Just a couple of quick questions -

Is it any good? (i've read reviews saying so, but I want to be able to trust them :D ) and do any of the new Nokia N series phones compare to it? A couple of them look rather PDA-esque

Thanks

Very happy with my mini-S , does all I want from a PDA/phone .

Mini-S with its keyboard is so mobile MSN-tastic :).

Would it work well as a business phone? I'll need to do emailing, documents etc... I know it can do all that, but saying that my current v3 can take pictures and connect to my PC... so I don't trust manufacturers opinions on how well it'll do things

Personally I don't like the XDAs, so maybe I'm biased but if you get one check what OS it comes with. Make sure you get 2003 over 2005..2005 still has A LOT of issues, crashing all the time etc.

I've got one of the original v3's - I'm used to it :p

Is it possible to re-install the OS if it does start to bugger up?

the xda mini is a good pda/phone, I have the orange equivalent. downside is its not exactly one hand friendly for txting etc. check for newer versions, its been out for a while, I've just got the newer version with wifi. previously I had SE smart phones which were better on the phone side but the htc varients I.e. xdas spvs and vodas version are all better pdas.
battery life is crap by the way, but I wouldn't be witout mine, I'm typing this on it hence the short replies

check xda-developers.com for info

This is not true I've had a i-mate jamin nd had no problems with it. never crashed.

I wouldnt bother witrht e mini its old now go for the newer (its made by the same people as the XDA) spv M600 or the XDA neo if you want O2.

I had a MPX200 in 2004
Mda Compact in 2005
And am now on an Xda Mini S, best piece of kit I have ever owned, the keyboard makes txting, msn and word documents bliss :D

I've got the XDA IIi and its a great phone. It does need the odd re-boot but thats M$ for you. If you want to use more powerful apps like Sat Nav on it then i would look to get the larger XDAs or another symbian phone due to the better processing power.

If not then it sounds like the phone for you. I agree with the 2003 over 2005 comments above also.

The update for the mini s is due anyday now although I think only t mobile is going to be releasing it in the near future. Its called the mda vario 2 and looks great. I was going to buy the mini s from O2 but decided to wait since its nearly launched. It is also called the Hermes if you want to google it.
