Pearl Jam have put the first single from their upcoming album up on their website at www.pearljam.com for the next couple of days.

It's called 'World Wide Suicide'. I'm a bit underwhelmed as I had very high hopes for this album after they described it as their hardest material ever.

What do others think?

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww :(

almost "upbeat rock"

have they gone soft?

is the "lost dogs" album worth a punt? I missed that one!

Some good tracks on it - it's basically B-sides from all the recordings to date. Very nicely packaged with a booklet telling you the story behind each track etc :) Worth picking up if you're a fan imo.

I quite like it, actually, but then I'm in the minority that enjoyed Binaural and Riot Act. Not as much as the earlier stuff, obviously, but they were still some of the best rock albums in recent years. The new song would fit in quite well on either of them. Maybe even on Yield, too.

With the band saying that the new album is Vs/Vitalogy-sounding, I'm not really sure what to expect. This song certainly isn't anything like them, but then with it being the single, it was always going to be more accessible.

Either way, new Pearl Jam > 99% of everything else, so I'm certainly not going to complain.

Absolutely, if only for Footsteps and Yellow Ledbetter. It's got things from all over the last 14 years or so, though, so whatever your taste in Pearl Jam, you're bound to like some of it.

A couple of weeks ago, you could pick it up in HMV for about £6, so I assume it's still cheap-ish.

I love Riot Act and Binaural too, but it's not grabbing me like 'Get Right', 'I Am Mine', 'Insignificance' or 'Save You'.

Hopefully it's just an unrepresentative track.
