New phone needed

Evening all.

My Son's ancient Motorola G something android phone is dying, the battery is awful and he is complaining that he's getting calls and when attempting to answer the phone reboots. I am tempted to give him my Poco X3 Pro and buy myself a new phone. The Poco is my second Xiaomi phone and whilst I have found them both to be reliable good phones the bloatware is annoying.

So what to upgrade to, well for starters I don't need a flagshop phone, I don't game and whilst I will want a relativly decent camera I own two Fuji cameras so it is not high on my list. Battery life is important as sometime for work I will be out all day using Waze a lot which seems to use a lot of battery life. My Poco was the first phone with Google pay, I will want that in any new phone. I am not very clued up on the current phone market but I am curious about the Nokia X30 as if I understand correctly it is vanilla Google so no bloatware.

So, what do you recommend?

I was looking for recommendation for my staff who use android and currently this is the list.

Google pixel 7a or 7
Samsung A54
POCO X5

I think she will choose Samsung at the end of the day because of the brand, I personally like the Google Pixel 7 but I am an iPhone 12 pro user

I just bought a pixel 7 coming from a pixel 5 (smashed the screen) £400 brand new off rainforest. Seems zippy to me. Battery may not be brilliant but it's pretty good and it's not ginormous like a pro version.

They also sell them on Amazon for the same price, I couldn't find a shop called Rainforest so Amazon seems an easier choice.

Rainforest is the nickname for Amazon here  It's what we call it when we're recommending products that OcUK sells too, for competitor reasons.

My vote would be the 7a or 7 if within budget, both have no bloat and since it's a Pixel, long update support.

Really I didn't know that. Thanks for clearing it up.
It's like the idiots that stay out of timed bus lanes outside of the posted times just incase, because they can't tell time isn't it.

Previous gen zen phone?

With cheaper phones you either get features and slow or quick but basic.

Personally I prefer quick but basic, such as a Pixel. All the features I need, but much nicer experience.

Thanks all.

Pixel 7 and Samsung A54 are a bit pricey for me, I typically have bought at around the £200 top end, but I think with the rise in inflation and general cost of living increases I think £250 is probably a more sensible option which the Poco X5 seems to retail at. I like the idea of a bloatfree Pixel but the price and the apparent poor battery life have put me off.

As with the Pixel, Zenfone is a bit pricy for me.

It's been a while but I just upgraded from the Poco X3 Pro because I was sick of the changes to stock Android. Got a pixel 7a and have to say it's just not worth it for my usage. Turns out I prefer the bigger screen and faster charge. Starting to think I might switch back with my kid

I think I maybe should've just gone for a custom rom.

I'm in the market for a new phone, had my Poco X3 Pro since release (3+years) and it's still going strong, although Miui can be a little clunky the latest updates have been great.
The only downside I can see with the x3pro is the lack of voice over 4G (traveling in the states is a prerequisite) and no 5G support.

If I could add those points to the x3pro I would keep it!
