new phone time, note 9 upgrade

hi

looking to get a new sim free phone. budget around £3-400. i have the note at present and whilst i like the pen etc, would not be a deal breaker, although is useful in meetings.

i now have wireless headphones so 3.5mm jack is not essential. i like big screens so 6-6.5" is fine, note sized.

camera is important, i use it a lot on holidays etc.

Just looking at the Samsung line-up, the two phones that are within your budget are:

Galaxy M52 5G
Galaxy A52s 5G

Although I don't know a huge amount about them as mid-priced phones don't get so many online reviews.

Note 10 plus? Ive been through most of the incarnations since being an early adopter with the "stupidly big dom jolly" note original. The step from 9 to 10 is decent enough with touchscreen fingerprint reader, bixby button gone and better cameras. Maybe worth looking at?

yer, i have been considering that. Bixby button annoys the hell out of me.

Motorola has come up a fair bit, but always dubious about there quality.

This is a good shout actually. I've had my Note 10+ for almost 3 years now, until this phone I religiously upgraded at the earliest opportunity I could, however, even now, I don't think an upgrade to even the brand new S22 ultra is worth an upgrade. the phone just does everything you would want it to. I'm literally trying to find an excuse to upgrade now but nothing seems to justify it. The only phone I would consider upgrading to right now would be the Sony Xperia Pro-I for the camera system, but again, i'm happy with the photos on my note 10+ still. Have phones reached a point now where technology has stagnated?

I think stagnated is the wrong word. New tech is coming to phones, it's just the difference it makes is less pronounced than before, and like you say, many phones do all you want now anyway.

i decided to use the xaiomi 11 5g i won at auction. so far, after a few days, i'm liking it. camera optics are same as galaxy S21 except the ultra zoom on the camera and takes good snaps. light, and snappy. think i will keep it and retire the note 9 and sell it on.
