new photoshop user, and its hard

If you're using it for web design you need to get to know the layers palette really well, and shortcuts like ctrl-g (group layers) and ctrl-e (merge layers) will come in handy.

v=move tool, hold space to pan, t=type tool, ctrl-t=free transform, g=paint bucket/gradient, w=wand, z=zoom, eraser=e

I find Photoshop fiddly and use Fireworks instead, which I find much better on usability. However, I don't normally do much complicated stuff, just the basics, but Fireworks is so much better for getting the simple things done IMO.

I consider myself to be a fast learner with software however last night i found myself completing a CSS tutorial which involved me using photoshop for the first time. I found the software very difficult to use and im just worried that im not going to get any better with it. What is the best way to use photoshop should i just keep at it completing tutorials etc until i eventually get the hang of it, and do other users find this so hard? , i found the use of layers etc to be very difficult at first.

Just wait till you get onto doing layer masks, vector layer masks and clipping masks. Then there's smart objects.

:D

And yes bigger monitors are better! More space and better productivity = better user expierience and happy user.
