New PhysX drivers available (2.4.4)

this is kinda off topic lol but meh.

i like readin these posts cos theres 2 sides of people that are for and against the physx cards. but dude, could you just use the "quote" button like everyone else instead of makin a quote bold??? i find it really hard to keep track of who your supposed to be quoting (especially when i scan through the posts sometimes and not read every bit of them) and it also doesnt stand out that well but instead just blends in more with your post

It looks far better then Cellfactor when it’s not in slow-motion, but I don’t seem to be able to capture at decent speeds. Well not so sure about the flamethrower as someone else said it’s more like a lava weapon. But the canister does looks nice at full speed.

Also its not the look that matters it’s the way it interacts with the environment. If you don’t like the look that’s the GPU fault not the PPU. Watch the way it hits the wall and goes splat. Its the physics we are meant to be looking at not how it looks.

EDIT: I am going to try and get a better video at over 10fps tonight.

“A drop below 20 fps for even half a second is unacceptable and very noticeable. You seem to be talking a load of tosh.”
The drop is not below 20fps and its not even half a second its far shorter so I don’t see it as a problem. So no I am not talking a load of tosh. The drop is also rare you dont get it eveytime you use the PPU just in that one screen so far.

Attempt 2, still a performance drop form the video capture but no where near as bad as before. I also added in the flame thrower this time. It’s nice how the liquid spreads over the floor and move but it’s a real shame bits are not left behind as it moves. There is certainly room for improvement but at least its better then not haveing the PPU. As you can see in this video the liquids don’t fade away fast like the effects do in Ghost Recon. Still it doesn’t feel like a flamethrower more like a lava/Melton rock thrower.

http://www.bestsharing.com/files/ms00176587/BOS with PPU2.avi.html

That will be may last video capture unless people request stuff.

Thanks for the videos Pottsey, its nice to see what the card can do.

This isn't a personal dig at all, but having watched the videos I really can't see anything that impressive, and I do wonder if whether the CPU could do those effects quite happily, they certainly don't look good enough to justify a seperate PPU.

Does that uploader just not like ntl ip's or something? Everytime i try and dload it (since it was uploaded) it just says its not available yet people can get it. Same thing happens with other files ive tried to dload from that pos site.

Indeed I would never spend £200 for that and get a fps decrease as well. I bet the 2nd core of a cpu could be made to do these effects.

”Indeed I would never spend £200 for that and get a fps decrease as well.
As I tried to explain before I got an FPS loss for a 1 of a second in a cut screen. But in gameplay it was faster and the max FPS was better as well. The 1 time the FPS dropped it was so short I didn’t notice it and being in a cut screen it didn’t really matter.

Why is everyone ignoring the FPS increase and focusing on the 1 split of a second of the game that runs worse. A 12fps loss for less then a second in a cuts screen is not that bad.

As for NTL it works for me. Have you got a firewall on? Could you try it turned off?

EDIT:Bioware’s Eclipse now supports the PPU in further games. Hopefully a killer app from them is not much longer.

There is a new interview here but its not very good very little new info. http://www.gdhardware.com/interviews/agiea/july_06/001.htm

See I'd rather have a 7 fps lower constant framerate and avoid dips below 30fps, plus keep a better average.

This card really isn't doing anything to validate its existance, let alone its price tag.

“See I'd rather have a 7 fps lower constant framerate and avoid dips below 30fps,”
So you’re saying you can see a FPS dip below 30fps even when it’s less then a second? I cannot my self but everyone’s eyes are different. Can others see that as well? Might be interesting to start a poll to see how many people can see dips that low for short a short amount of time.

I wonder what the limit is. 1 second, half second, 3rd of a second before dips become unnoticeable by most people. Have there been any studies into this?

Its not just the framerate dip, you don't get anything for £200 other than some slightly enhanced effects and no real framerate improvement either.

OT I know, but Pottsey, can please quote properly? This bold text malarkey is just annoying.

Agreed.
