Just had the bathroom ceiling in the flat that is let out re-skimmed as part of having the bathroom referbed.

Im pretty sure you do a mist paint first before putting the final paint on. Anyone recommend a paint to dilute to do the mist paint, and how much water to dilute with it?

Also, do I really need to sand the ceiling first? The finish looks pretty good.

Have always used Matt emulsion with water mixed 50/50 for mist coat.

If the plastering is good, you might get away with any rubbing down, but I always like to give it a light rubbing to give the paint a key, usually use a 400 grit paper, maybe 320, anything much coarser leaves scratches n the plaster.

Prior to applying the first coat of paint, give the surface a scrape to remove any little nibs and bits. Make sure the blade is nice and level so you dont leave gouges/scratches on the surface.

That is why I prefer to use paper on a solid block,or my orbital sander to avoid the gouges.

Cheers all. The ceiling was artex previously and we had it skimmed. I'm wondering how long I should leave it for it to dry. The colour is pretty consistent, and it was done on Tuesday or Wednesday last week. Hmm, I'm pretty sure it looks dry now.
