Hi.

I currently am using a 550W Antec TruePower PSU.
It can supply 24amps on its (single) 12V rail.

Is this enough to run a 7900GS pci-e video card or would I be advised to buy another psu?

I intend to run this psu with [email protected], 3 hard disks, 2 optical drives.

Thanks.

Yeah, it's fine :)

I'm running my system in signature off a Tagan 430w :p PSU will be my next upgrade...

Whats you budget ?

My budget is pretty much open ended, but ideally I wont want to buy a psu (could save myself £40-£90).

I was thinking that if I really needed to I would just get the 300W FSP Booster X3 5.25" Supplimental PSU for VGA - 2 x PCI-E SLI/Xfire Approved. This PSU exclusively supplies power only to the pci-e connectors that plug into the video card. Reviews of this product have shown that by using it, it can allow you to overclock your cpu further by off-loading the power drain from your main PSU.

Alternatively, I would need to buy a totally brand new psu, which will cost a lot more.

Is your cpu overclocked at all? The reason I ask is that I will be overclocking my cpu heavily, on top of which I use 3 hard disks, which most people dont do.

No I'm not, didn't wanna risk it with my PSU :) But you should have plenty more juice from yours... Does anyone know how much the consumption goes up from OCing?

Built a system on the crunch for a mate with 6Hdds for 3TB, PIV 820 @ 3.6Ghz, 2Gb RAM and i think a 7600GT,DVD ROM and DVD RW, all powered by a 400W Enermax Liberty. Sees daily use in a graphics environment with full load daily without issue.

Ok, Im convinced. I think my 550w will be fine.

Thanks for your help gents.

No problem running your system :) I have 2HD, 6300 @ 2.8, 2gb ram, 7800gt etc. all running off my Seasonic 430w.

From what Ive heard your cpu power usage goes up linearly with overclocking. So, if your cpu takes up say 100w at stock. When overclocked by 10%, power usage will also be increased by 10w, in this case. Of course, we also need to factor in any extra voltage. Needless to say that overclocking the cpu and video card will use extra power and the stress on the components.
