New Power Supply

Hey guys,

So as I posted on another thread last week I have picked up 2 x 1080ti Aorus Xtremes and they run great with my Corsair HX 850. (Ignore my sig, the Ax1500i died). Although the cards work fine I still fancy getting a bigger PSU. I don't want to be spending as much as I did on the Ax1500i a while back but still want something will plenty of power. Any reccomendations please? Would need to be modular.

Thanks a lot mate, I was buying an Evga one but the seller has let me down today. I will defo take a look at these, thanks so much. Due to me using the Phanteks Primo the colour of the psu or lights would not matter as I keep the PSU hidden away at the back. Thanks mate.

Actually, before I do purchase one can I just add that my system has 9 solid state drives, 12 case fans, a highly overclocked 5960x @ 4.7 and all of the other listed hardware. Is 1000w still enough? Obviously ignore the listed PSU as I no longer use that, it gave up. Given the amount of stuff above a PSU calculator I tried gave a rough estimate of full load wattage being 990W!

Though I expect thats flat out worst case scenario. Think I would be erring on the side of caution and getting something beefier 1200w+

Oh damn ok, I thought that I may need more when I started looking at my rig. I mean, it works now using a Corsair HX850 but I did get a blue screen yesterday and I just feel I need more which is clearly obvious. Could you guys please recommend me some of the bigger power supplies? Thank you
I did use a PSU calculator and put in all of the voltages and stuff and it came out with 1120 for me. Obviously that isn't a true reading but still ,I just need to be sure.
Pastymuncher you do know what you are talking about I know that, and I have seen a lot of your posts and I know you are on the ball. I did however not explain my full setup, sorry about that.
Lets say I have £280 to spend and I would prefare not to go over that, although if I really don't need to spend that much ofcourse I won't. I know a lot about graphics cards, not so much about power supplies.

That card at factory settings peaks at ~270W.

So that would be max 540W/fair 500W average for two, assuming SLI actually fully works/scales for performance.

Then while full load consumption of CPU might be even around 200W, games aren't good at loading all cores/threads.
So more likely gaming draw for it would be ~100W.
Now 9 HDDs would consume over 50W for keeping themselves running, but for properly done SSDs ~5W should be enough for all of then idling.
So 200W over GPUs should be enough for gaming.

Don't forget that you tend to get maximum efficiency at the 50-60% mark, so if you're pushing the limits of the PSU you'll not be getting the full efficiency and burning more money.

Personally if you've got the money, which you say you have, and your spec is beefier than most users PC's then I'd get the biggest decent PSU I can find.

That Seasonic you linked to looks very nice, especially at the price it's on offer for.

I've just got myself the Bequiet Dark Power Pro 11 1000W PSU (it's Platinum rated as well) and it's built like a tank, heaviest PSU I've ever used, I can recommend you look at their range as well, especially the higher wattage models

Ok great, I was actually looking at the Be Quiets, they have some great features such as the rubber to stop any vibration noise. The fans on them are also great and the general builld is very impressive. I just know that I can never stop buying stuff and the chance of me adding more to this system is pretty damn high, should be set for quite some time I guess. I appreciate all of the advice in here and I am very grateful that you guys have helped me out, thanks a lot. I will post back when I am up and running (Prob on the weekend as I know Ocuk defo would have delivered by then).
