Hi All,

My PSU is getting a bit long in the tooth now (at least 8 years at a guess) do I need to consider replacing it and what are your recommendations.

Only real requirement is a small footprint due to case limitations. Modular preferred.

TIA ;)

Seasonic based ones are compact with 10mm smaller depth than width.

Corsair RM850 can be had for £90 if you look. Get the 2021 version though, it's more durable(fan vent more square shape made up of small triangles). 10yrs warranty/fully modular etc... More than enough for a RX6800....dimensions 152 x 87 x 162mm...(your corsair HX-750 is 150 x 87 x 180mm) so guessing no probs fitting in your case
mind you the phanteks 1000w for £130 isn't bad(in list EsaT put in), if you're planning on upgrading gpu in future...the way gpu power draws are going..and thats 150 x 86 x 140

Do you have the HX-750 PSU? Is it a 2014 build?

Is it not still under warranty?

No, I'd keep it until you upgrade, because PSU standards are a bit up in the air right now and not sure where they're going to go.

HX750 Professional series and 2014 sounds right, it's done 2 builds so far just wasn't sure on the longevity of them.
HX series is very high quality.

Here's from their website
  • HX Series PSUs:
    • Models with Platinum efficiency have a 10-year warranty
    • Models HX520W, HX620W, and HX1000W have a 5-year warranty
    • All other HX Series Models have a 7-year warranty
SO yours has a 7 year warranty which means it has been out of warranty for one year. Not exactly pushing the limit of the PSU. It's your call at the end of the day though.

Caveat, not all Corsair PSUs have a 10 year warranty. The RM850X does have a 10 year warranty but the RM850 non X, for example, does not.
The RM850 does have a 10yrs warranty. Difference between the x and the non x is the capacitors I believe...x version are japanese, non x are chinese

I'm in a similar situation to the OP. I have a EVGA Supernova G2 1000 which much be pushing 10 years now. It does have a 10 year warranty and seems to be going strong still but having a psu for this long seems like a recipe for disaster to me. I've been in two minds about replacing it or keep it and see what materialises regarding ATX 3.0

It is looking like the new graphics card power connector is the only thing that's going to make it, ATX12VO appears to be DOA apart from a few niche cases. The release of 13th gen might help confirm one way or the other. I wouldn't be concerned by the PSU, if it has a 10 year warranty it'll be expected to last considerably longer than that.
