New powerful PC but NOT for gaming

Hi,

Although I'm not new to building my own PC I haven't done so for about 6 years except the odd part upgrade and thus I'm a little out of touch!

I use my xbox360 for gaming so this would be all other tasks, running multiple VM's (it's a work thing) and the odd movie - not really HD, thats in the living room.

I have HDD's, and graphics wise I was just going to use my 256MB 6200 and quadro 280 as I run 4 monitors.

CPU wise I'm looking at the following:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)

I've read this is quite easy to overclock hence the additional cooler etc.

Motherboard: Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 (MB-135-AB)

RAM: 8GB of any suitable RAM - I'm TOTALLY lost with all the different RAM types now!!!!

Hardest part is the case! I don't want a full tower and preferably not a mini tower either. I would prefer a "business" style thin case, like the Dell Optiplex or I was even looking at the Antec Fusion HTPC Case? I would have a shuttle but I don't think they support 8GB RAM and wouldn't heat be a problem?

PSU wise the Antec has 430watt, but according to their wattage estimator I'll need over 600 if I overclock! So I don't think their case will be able to take that heat?

Any ideas greatly received as this is driving me potty and I don't want to order the wrong bits!

Budget wise for all that I was looking at £600 all in, if you think it be worth getting a better graphics card whilst I'm at it I would consider that as well.

Thanks in advance Tim

One thing I should really add is that this is most likely going to stay in my bedroom and WILL be on 24 hours. So I'd like it as quiet as possible and certinaly no loud humming

cheers :)

id recommend an antec 300, cheap, looks ok and very good cooling.

pc-6400 is the ram you should be looking at :)
