New Prebuild from OCuk

Like I say I'm working every day up to xmas so there is no time for me to be available to send back or accept delivery

Buying a new Heatsink is far more desirable for me, but I need to be sure that will solve the problem - it couldnt be anything else could it?

Seems silly to go through the hassle of returning it just for a screw/heatsink..

Pulling my hair out here

No, if its not contacting properly thats definatly your problem.
Not really much else it could be anyway as your getting insane temps on stock speeds.
If your confident enough fit a new cooler, just dont screw it up or i expect it might invalidate your warranty. (Check T+C before doing it and make sure that doesnt either).

I'm sure theres somebody/way you could accept delivery, even if it means picking up from depo. But if thats your last resort so be it.

Just re installed the heatsink, it uses the 'push pin' type pins and one of them doesnt lock however one of the screws in the mounting bracket was loose so i tightend that up and re applied thernal paste and im getting 76 degrees max on stock 3.3ghz prime 95 test which is better.

OCUK also set up the cpu heatsink fan to blow into it from the front of the case as opposed to out of it and out of the exhaust which i have just tried, which resulted in a lower temp.

I'll see if i can buy these push pin screws on their own then i should be set.

They look like the same push pins used on the Intel stock coolers.

If you can get one of those cheap/free you may be able to take one of the fittings off and use it on your cooler.

I've orderd an 'Akasa AK-CC7118HP01 K25 Low Profile CPU Cooler' that appears to come with push pins as I was unable to find the push pins on their own and some new artic paste so hopefully this will resolve it.

I will contact Ocuk today to discuss though, shouldnt ship a heavy heatsink attached just like they dont attach the GPU, it's easily damaged in transit.

You can't attach the heatsink properly. If this one doesn't attach properly another one is unlikely to do so IMHO. Send it back, the sooner the better since Xmas is coming.

Phoned Ocuk today, the guy on the phone told me 45-50 on idle is fine!?! I stressed that I get over 95 on prime he agreed that's a bit too high but said as I got air cooling that's what I should expect with an overclock. Not best pleased with what I was told TBH.

What has happend is one of the push pins is damaged, it doesnt go all the way in as part of the plastic snapped off in transit, the other 3 go down fine it's just one of them only doesnt lock and only pushes in around 60% of the way.

The Bitfenix shenobi only comes with 1 intake 1100 rpm fan and 1 exhaust 1100 fan, the technical guy also suggested getting more and more powerful case fans which should help.

So in summery i'm doing the following to rectify it:

*Orderd a cheap heatsink so I can use a pin to fully secure the heatsink down
*Orderd 3x 2,000 rpm fans to better improve the case airflow

I can't return it as I'm working every day until after xmas, and have no one that can do it on behalf. Seriously, i'm limited to fixing it myself.

Idle at 45-50 is high, but not a problem, it's under load that you got an issue and thats definately not because you have it air cooled....

I like OCuk but some of their Customer services staff need to be trained better...ridiculous answer.

You need to have that one screw sorted out or you will burn your system out.

At the end of the day, you've paid for a complete system WITH a stable overclock, which OcUK has not provided (likely to be due to damage in transit).

If your not going to send it back (which is what I'd do), then forget getting another cheap CPU cooler, get a proper one and do it yourself properly rather than messing around with cheap push-pin CPU coolers.

I wouldn't be happy if I was told that and would demand to speak to a more senior technician! But at the end of the day if your not going to send it back it doesn't matter.

Couldn't agree more. You've paid for a system to be made now mistakes happen but they should fix it, not you. I really don't get why you can't send it back. The cynic in me thinks you've done something to it yourself because I can't for the life of me figure out why you wouldn't send it back.

Sending it/receiving it from work is not an option guys, as I keep mentioning. The people who work in the goods in section of our buisness I wouldn't trust with a mouse mat let alone my system, people have orderd things to work before and they have gone missing. Not doing it.

I'm working 60 hours a week at the moment so am not at home much at all including weekends to send it back and have a house move the the 23rd to deal with also so i'm not making it up when I say I can't send it back.

I know and agree it should have a stable overclock. Trust me it's bothering me more than anyone else!

So I have to settle for fixing it myself, which is what I will do.

On stock it's idle at 34 and load 74. I will try the 4.4 overclock again once I have properly re-seated the cooler and installed better & more case fans. Hopefully then it will be under 70 on load overclocked.

Failing that i'll have to look into a better cooler altogether, what would you guys reccomend?

Gelid Tranquillo for £25.99, can't go wrong. Cancel whatever CPU cooler you've ordered, whack this on there with another couple of case fans. Job done. Great cooler for the money.

They already shipped the cheap one so it's too late to cancel, oh well at least I will have a spare one laying around.

I will look into the reviews of that cooler and look at ordering it, is it better than the Red Scorpian that came with my system then?
