Richard Scudamores replacement as PL CE has been announced. Susannah Dinnage will take over in the role. She is currently global president of Animal Planet. Her CV consists of no roles in sport or football at all, this will be her first. Bit of an odd transition if you ask me. Would have thought the candidate should have some professional experience in the field.

As for Scudamore, why is he getting a £5m payoff and what a cheek to ask clubs to stump up £250k each towards it.

Scudamore increased TV revenues for PL clubs massively during the time he was there. As with any ridiculously well paid jobs however you have to question how much of that was his work and how much was pure luck / in spite of him.

The £250k from each club is a massive joke though. Football is as bent as a nine bob note though so this surprises me not one bit.

As for his replacement, I have no idea how much football knowledge is actually required to do the job well. Woodward isn't a football man but he has made a massive difference both on and off the pitch at United. (one for the better and one for the worse)

She has excellent executive-level experience in the broadcasting industry - I imagine she's overseen all manager of relevant negotiations. Beyond that her management credentials look very impressive. Not sure how much more she needs to be honest with you - she certainly doesn't need a background in football, just some knowledge of the sport.

£5m for Scudamore is a slap in the face to grass roots football that is desperate for funding.

Lolwut. Think of eg. David Gill. To run a business you don't need to have worked in it. Tbh it's arguably better to recruit from outside so they can approach the issues with fresh ideas.
To be fair, you can't even compare a CEO of a football club to that of the PL. The PL is run by the clubs - they're the decision makers and they vote on what happens and what doesn't. The job of the CEO is to try to keep the peace between the clubs and find compromises to suit everybody but primarily to secure billions of pounds in TV rights fees. Her having experience in the TV world is what probably helped get her the job.

Regarding this golden handshake, it's been reported that this was something suggested by Chelsea's chairman and as above the clubs will have to agree to that, not Scudamore. In reponse to @fez's point about how much of the PL's financial success was down to Scudamore an how much was luck or in spite of him. It was hugely down to Scudamore. It's most certainly not been in the fans best interests at times but the PL's lead the way in Europe in regards to new ways of generating more TV money. I can't remember exactly who it was that said it but it was either an American PL club owner or an owner of an American franchise commenting on Scudamore, but he said that Scudamore should be getting paid a hell of a lot more for the work he's doing and would so if it was in America.

For those that didn't see the news, the £5m pay off to Scudamore was approved. Presumably to save face it's not being called a golden handshake but instead Scudamore will stay on as an advisor to the PL and will be paid this £5m over the next 3 years.

The PL's struggles to find a successor to Scudamore continue. First Susannah Dinnage accepts the job only to back out at the last minute and now, having been appointed just 2 months ago and not even beginning work until February, David Pemsel has resigned after stories broke that he's been harassing a former colleague.
