New Premier League TV rights

Those 38 games on BT aren't going to get many viewers.

[Edit:- unless they have a channel lined up for other providers to leech off?]

ESPN lost everything.

130ish Games to Sky.
38 games to BT who have also agreed they will show the games multi platform (so expect a BT Sports channel soon).

BT have also apparently got a high number of the 'A' games.

I hope they do similar to espn with virgin media and it's included with the package.

So have sky basically got as many games as they are allowed to win? I.E same as last season ?

I think it's similar tbh. The difference is in how much each club will receive.

I think it means from 2013/2014 the club that finishes bottom will get paid more than Man City got this year.

Great more channels to fork out for

I very much doubt it'll be free on Sky haha :/

BT said it would launch a new football-focused channel to carry the games.

"It will offer new interactive features when supplied over BT's fibre network and we will look to distribute it on other platforms," the telecoms firm said.

BT said full details and pricing would be published in due course

"We welcome BT as a new Premier League broadcast partner," said Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore.

"They are a substantial British company that is at the leading edge of technology and infrastructure development."

He said BT would "deliver new ways in which fans will be able to follow the competition".

He added: "The continuing support of BSkyB for Premier League football is significant beyond the revenues delivered; the longevity and quality of their commitment has done much for the English game as a whole."

Under the new agreement, BT secured two of the seven packages on offer, showing 28 Saturday lunchtime games, including the opening game of the season, and 10 matches taking place on bank holidays or midweek evenings
So BT will show no Sunday games, but will launch a new channel and probably offer all the games over the internet.

That's quoted but I'm on my phone.

Great, another substandard broadcast offering that will be cobbled together at some point in August and leave the fans worse off by having to fork out for yet another channel. At least ESPN had some other interesting content.

just so you know this won't come into play for another year yet, it's 2013 onwards so ESPN is still in place next season.

I read that BT got the rights to the Saturday lunchtime kick offs as well as some weekday evening and bank holiday games. Suits me fine as I am rarely able to watch the Saturday games anyway. Big (and apparently unexpected) increase in revenue for the PL, I just wish that the money was invested on other things rather than filling the wallets of overrated footballers.

Wonder if BT will offer some sort of online subscription model for non BT Vision customers. So you pay £x a month and just stream it from any connection.

Can they do that? They've states they'll make the channel available through other platforms (virgin and sky) even if it might cost extra but I thought online rights are sold separately? If not I imagine they will. I'd pay for it if it's not included in the vm package.

Could be sold seperately, I don't know. Might be some sort of move by BT to try and encourage uptake of their services so could even be locked down to just BT Broadband customers or a freebie (plus Sky/Virgin TV of course).
