Currently I have an AMD Phenom II x4 955 producing around 3.4ghz and an old(ish) Gigabyte MA790XT UDP4 and 8GB RAM. Performance is generally fine for what I need but I would like USB 3 and seeing as the setup is over 3 years old I want to do a gradual technology refresh/upgrade. Even if its for latest technology rather than specifically speed.

I've lost touch with CPU trends to be honest and was looking at the FX6300 3.5ghz (or for a little more an 8320) and the Gigabyte GA -970A-DS3 MBD.

Any advice appreciated...this is always the place for me to come for advice.... ;)

What do you mainly use your pc for ? e.g. gaming

Ah its this one ...

if you are going to use an FX chip then i would look at one of the 990 FX boards.

Some gaming but not a lot just Far Cry 3 at the moment. Mainly general stuff but with a reasonable amount of photo processing through CS5

Be good to match MBD with the processor...the 8320 looks a good option for CPU for another £20 ? And maybe this Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 990FX
