New processor

Well you would definitely see an improvement, but for coding, you would see a much greater improvement going SB.

I would wait until Bulldozer comes out, hopefully very soon, and see what it performs like. Then you can base your upgrade upon that.

Well I was thinking of getting a new system at the end of 2012 so I was thinking this cpu would help tide me over until then. Was thinking of getting a new gfx in September when I get my student loan to go with it.

Never really though about a hex core, would have wait though for the funds for a hex core. There isn't any difference in gaming between a hex and quad though is there?

nope, and the suggestion is poor becuase i doubt you will start coding using six cores anyway :p

dont bother with a six core, it isnt better for gaming or coding, i'd go for a 2500K if you have the funds or the quickest X4 you can afford :)

Well really for coding you'd be better off with the i7 as coding would use hyperthreading.
