new project - my first watercooled PC

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, but have build many PCs and some mining rigs over the last 20 years, but so far I've never touched watercooling.
I managed to get a 3090 FE and am now looking at upgrading the rest of my system (my 3090 is complaining that my Ryzen 1600X can't keep up with him :D), and making it watercooled (only considering GPU & CPU watercooling for now). Reasons for looking at water cooling are twofold, first just as a cool and exciting project, second I want to keep this 3090 running nicely for 3-5 years so I'd like to actively cool the back of the GPU to keep VRAM temperatures low.
Purpose for my build is to be a gaming rig while using the 3090 to mine while the PC is idle. I have a Lenovo Y27gq screen (1440p, 240Hz, G-sync) so the rest of the system needs to be good enough to manage that (not planning to go 4K anytime soon, I know the 3090 is overkill but I haven't managed to get a 3080). I am not planning to go for any overclocking for gaming purposes.
Now there are a couple of things I'm considering where any input from other would be welcome.
- CPU choice, intel or AMD, intel seems to be better performance/price for gaming from what I've read, 10850K or 10700K seem decent options for my purpose on intel side, or 5600X on AMD side. Anything else I should consider here?
- Watercooling for the GPU - I'd like to get a EK-Quantum Vector FE 3090 waterblock with backplate cooling, I haven't seen other blocks that do the same, but I have read about DIY solutions, does anyone have any experience with that? The FE block is quite expensive so considering other options as well.
- In general I could use some help with what to get for the watercooling setup, I've played a bit with the EK configurator to get an idea of what I want/need, but would like to order in the UK rather then on the EK webshop

I don't have a defined budget, I expect to spend somewhere between 2000-3000 GBP on the build, but I'd like to make it fit for purpose rather then going all out and buying the best of the best only.

oh ok, I thought as one project with multiple questions or discussion points it would fit better here, should I split it up into multiple posts then?
