Hi guys.

My trusty desktop of 5 years, died a horrible death recently so I gave it a proper burial and took the opportunity to build a new up to date one.

My Old Specs: Win 7 Ultimate, Intel i7-930 Quad Core 2.8ghz, 6gb 1333mhz ram, 256gb SSD for OS & Games, Gigabyte X-58 UD3R MotherBoard, Gigabyte Geforce GTX 460 GPU, 650w PSU, BitFenix Colossus Case. I had a bad experience with this gigabyte motherboard I definitely wouldn't be buying anything gigabyte again.

Some pics of my old PC:

My new build is a bit different. Specs below:
  • NZXT Phantom 820 Full Tower Case
  • i7-4790k 4ghz Devil's Canyon & NXZT Kraken X60 AIO Water CPU Cooler
  • 250 GB Samsung SSD (for OS & Programs), 250GB Samsung SSD (for Games)
  • Asus Maximus VII Hero Intel Z97 MB
  • 24gb Ram (Mushkin)
  • EVGA Geforce GTX 790Ti SOC AXC 3GB GPU
  • 1000W Corsair PSU
  • Using my other HD's from the old PC for a total of 10 terabytes additional
    storage.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate as I'm not a fan of Windows 8. Quite happy with it so far. Got all four cores running at 4.5ghz using the Asus tool, been stable for over 2 weeks now. Might push it further when I get a chance.

My main uses for the PC are games: Wow, WatchDogs, Crysis, Dragon Age. VMware for work, the odd video editing & Photoshop, also it's used as a Media Center to stream videos to my TV and PS3.

Apologies in advance, lot of pictures below:

Looks like a good solid spec. I would advise though that GB currently produce the best boards available and with their UK RMA, a very good choice.

Do you really need 24GB RAM or is this something you already have?

Thanks;) I had my previous MB Rma'd 3 times and same issues with booting up, memory speeds not being recognised and other random issues. Just put me off for any future purchases.

I originally purchased 16gb but was given another 8gb by a friend who has switched to using a Mac (don't ask ;)) so thought why not.
