as topic really ....

ive got an xbox i rarely use .. pick this up with a mobile phone contract and will be used down gf house mostly for br movies .. she does have internet either so considering getting some ps1 classics as she likes rayman tomb raider etc ... so am i better off buying psn+ of getting them outright ?

i might get the odd game myself for it , but mostly movie use tbh

if it's mainly for movies then no point

well she will play teh classic games , shes not fussed to much on teh new stuff . so wondering if i'm better of buying the old ps1 games through teh store of going £40 for years sub and having them for free ???

i might get around to playing them myself at some point lol

you do not get the games for free,

you get 1 or 2 random games for free which you might not like, therefore a waste of £40 every year.

once your sub runs out, you can no longer play those "free" games.

it's basically a rental service with no choice.

save the cash and buy the games outright, meaning you own them and can play them forever.

unless your planning on enough games which makes the PSN+ discount worthwhile, which would most likely have to be a lot of games because the ps1 games are so cheap to begin with.

so if your planning on buying a ton load of games, then get psn+, otherwise don't.

I had a PSN+ for 12 months, got two months free due to the PSN outage last year. It was at the time something I felt was good value however slowly realised half the games I got for free wasn’t something I’d even consider, despite me downloading them..

I installed then, hardly played them, soon forgot about and let the sub lapse and haven’t renewed it. Don’t miss it, don’t even miss the cloud saving.

Early BETA I never used and discounted content was ok, however hardly used this either.

My opinion is that you need to be a serious, and I mean seriously into Playstation to make this actually worthwhile..

Its not a lot of money each year, however a lot of content I’d say a lot of PSN+ users don’t even need, want or used if indeed they did download it all…

Since I let my sub run out I've not cleaned up my PS3 HD until the other day when I turned it on to remove the 500GB drive to replace with a smaller one... I had hundreds of MB's of dead games that had expired... Nearly all of them I'd have never downloaded if it weren't for PSN+, I would never had purchased them, or even rented them...

Although, I did play Super Street Fighter for a good few hours which I lost - but not overly bothered that much to actually buy it on PSN...

PSN+ is 100% for serious PSN users....

hmm ..thanks for the input guys . probably best i do the odd purchase methinks ... at least i know gf will play them :)

PSN+ is a con. It's akin to an online rental service but you can't pick the games you want, Sony will decide that for you then rip you off for the privilege of being a dumb ****.

You get to keep the stuff whilst you subscribe (or resubscribe)... You get at least 2 minis and 1 PSOne classic per month. Plus often Sega classic, large percentage discounts (which you can keep the games) and avatars and backgrounds you can also keep. Sounds like it might be decent value for your gf and to have the odd game to play. £40 a year isn't that bad really for what you get. I've cancelled mine as I was running out of time to play all of the stuff and also storage space... over a year you get a lot!

Resident evil 2 & 3 are on PSN+ at the mo (not only that, they're the American versions). That's already made the fee worth while for me.

Farcry 2 is also a free download this month and all the Crash Bandicoot games were up the other month.

Main problem if subscribing now (for PS1 games) is that a large majority of the catalogue available have already been given free to PS+ members. I can't see them giving them for free again as part of your 1 free title a month as it would annoy existing customers who got that already.

It can he had for cheaper then £40, last year it cost me £26 after buying cheap PSN cards.
+1

If you get cheap cards then it becomes cheaper than the online RRP of £40. Also they used to (no idea atm) have a lot of "buy 12 months get 3 free" style offers. I think I got mine with one of these deals which further increases the value for money.

Is Resident Evil 2 the dual shock edition?

Yup! In total I have had 29 months for the price of 24 months, and got Little Big Planet for free.

Recently they had Jurassic Park for free, and it is due a free gift soonish, they seem to do it on 4 month cycles.
