Hi Guys,

Looking to get a new PSU as mine currently makes a horrid coil whine when the PC is shutdown and I have to physically switch it off to make it stop.

I also want to future proof myself in case I ever end up going mGPU or watercool.

I think I've narrowed down to going for the Superflower Leadex Gold but unsure as to whether to go for 750 or 850 watt to suffice my machine.

Machine is in sig but looking to replace the 7850 with either a 980Ti or 1070 shortly.

If you end up going for a 980 ti then you probably won't be adding a 2nd as they are now end of line (Unless you are fine adding a 2nd hand one later on).

For a single gpu with the i7 5960X a 650W would be fine. Maybe 850W/1000W for SLI depending on how far you want to overclock things.

I personally prefer the EVGA G2/P2 over the Leadex as you get the longer warranty. You should also look at the Corsair RMx/RMi units as they are also very good, and they all come with a 10 year warranty across the board.

My basket at [url=https://www.overclockers.co.uk]Overclockers UK:
Total: £329.67 (includes shipping: £11.70)

So either one of those would be fine for a single GPU, chose 750 for that extra headroom for overclocking?

But if I wanted SLI I'd have to go 850+?

It depends on your graphics card choice. The GTX 1070 is less power hungry than the 980 ti. You probably would be fine with a 750W for GTX 1070 SLI but if you plan to overclock everything then go for 850W.

This link gives you an idea of the power draw from an MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X. The 980 ti is also in the list, and you can see that it is more power hungry.

Thanks for the advice guys. Think I'm going to go for an 850w EVGA supply to cover myself and also like the idea of 10yr warranty.

Am I right in saying the only difference between the G2 and the P2 is the efficieny rating?

The G2 750W has a 10 year warranty. I bought one last year and it does have a 10 year warranty. It's only the G2 550W and 650W units that have a 7 year warranty.

The P2 750W and 850W also have a 10 year warranty.

Cheers, won't be here for a while as it's going on my birthday list haha

Think I'm going to go for custom braided cables....anyone able to recommend some other companies which do this to compare to Pexon PC's pricing?

The 850W P2 is a very good PSU. Have a look at either the cablemod kits or the bitfenix alchemy kits. I have a black/red cablemod kit for my G2 750W and they're great cables.

Can't believe my luck :(

I got the P2 850 from the rainforest and its been in for about 2 weeks and just died on me!

I poo'd my pants thinking it was my motherboard but have gotten my old unit out and that powers up my machine just fine.

Looks like i'll be on to the rainforest CS :(
