Hello

Yesterday i finally completed my new build a i7 8700k pre binned to 5.1 and hero x motherboard. All working great got the overclock and installed windows 10. Was playing a game when suddenly the whole upstairs electrics went off, found mcb tripped, reset but tripped immediately and caused a spark. So disconnected the power lead from computer and reset mcb.
All electrics working again in house but when i put the cable back in and switch on nothing happens in pc. Now i suspect psu failure, but this was a brand new corsair hx1000i. Plenty to run my system. I have custom watercooled, but no drips or anything noticed at all and liquid level stilll same level and cannot smell burning.
Anyone else have a issues like this before

Regards

changed lead same, other electrical items working which come from same 8 way adapter. I just hoping its not taken out other components with it. as all brand new. at least they under warrenty.

Maybe recheck power connections inside the pc now?
Possibly the 24 pin or cpu pin lead is loose?or a wire in them loose?
After that have you got/can borrow a different psu to try?

Checked all cables just worried as it took out the mcb so this is telling me its a short somewhere, will order a spare psu to check and can send back if same.

thanks for help, just praying its not my motherboard or cpu

Defo sounds like a PSU failure to me, as the same thing happened when mine went. All being well it won't of damaged any other parts. (fingers crossed.) I was lucky and just the PSU needed replacing.

Short circuit in outputs just triggers properly working PSU's protections.
Fuse burning/circuit breaker tripping hints to serious problem in PSUs primary side.

If there's not even 5V standby indicator light on motherboard second powering attempt might have burned PSU's internal fuse.
(or short burning away)

Sounds like the PSU. I think it's unlikely that your other components will have been damaged.

Normally decent PSU's will not take any components with them if they die.
