Evening,

I'm looking to rebuild my old pc and donate it to one of my mates so they can do some basic accounts stuff.

My old pc is as follows :-

Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 mobo with Q9550 CPU
4Gb Corsair DDR3 Memory
AMD Radeon 1Gb HD5770 GPU
DVD RW

I'll be chucking in a couple of Hard Drives in there as well, all encased in an Antec1200 case. I did power it with an Antec 1000W PSU but that got transferred into my current PC so I'm looking for a suitable PSU for this one again but getting confused by modular / semi modular psu. I just want one that i can bung some standard cables in to power stuff! :D

There's no standard in modular cable connectors of PSUs.
Even different models from same manufacturer can use different modular cables.
In short use only modular cables which came with PSU.

Even 450W PSU would be well enough for gaming on that and for lighter use more than enough.
HD5000 cards were basically one of the first cards with actual idle/desktop low consumption mode.

But for best longevity there aren't much of lower wattage models with high quality capacitors.
Few ones like Seasonic G-costs same as above 500W models, likely because of lot smaller selling volumes.
